I'm in the middle of a speaker install - pulled all the carpeting back to put sound deadener down and found that the insulation under the driver's mat is wet. Everything south of that is dry, passenger side doesn't show any signs water has been getting in. Has anyone else had this issue? Just trying to see if there's a common spot where a leak forms after time - trying to get this patched up while I have everything taken apart. Putting a pic below below because why not! Thanks guys

How long have you owned the car? Usually if the water is concentrated in one spot like that, someone left a window down during a rain storm. It takes a great deal of time for the padding under the carpet to dry out.
If your AC was leaking into the car, the right side would be wet too.

Both plugs are in and intact, I'll have to check the cowel.
I've owned the car for over a month - at the dealership for at least a month before I picked it up and I don't think it was driven much before that. Also it looks like water has been there for a while - everything else under the carpet is spotless but the floor is caked under the driver's mat.

Does it have a Sunroof? If so, sometimes the drains plug up on other cars I have had.

On the passenger side lower firewall.
If drivers side wet doubt this is issue.

Yeah looks like it's working ok, and yeah the passenger side is bone dry without any water residue anywhere - driver's side was pretty damp but also there was white residue all over everything
I had this problem on a older Grand Marquis and the problem was the gasket between the cowl vent screen and body. You have to pull off the grille piece under the wipers to access it.

Could be a leak at the edge of the windshield, somewhere on the drivers side, upper edge. A trip through a carwash would test this possibility.

Yeah I can't seem to find anything that looks like water is coming through it I'll check that, I'll also take the car through a wash once I get a couple things in the mail, the car has no seats at the moment (besides a lawn chair). Thanks for the help everyone I'll post back with an update in case any one else has the issue

sit in the car with a flashlight and have a friend run a light stream of water with a hose over the outside without the nozzle.. I had a leak in a 66 caprice and it turned out the be the rubber grommet was missing thru the side of fender for the antennae wire and that is how I found it.

That's how I used to find water leaks.

If you just bought this car maby there was a mishap at the dealership and it was not cleaned up right or the detailer over soaked the rug during his cleanup. I would keep an eye on it and dry it out with a small space heater with the window cracked open an inch or two over night or until dry. Hope that was it....

See post #4. The water has been there for a while.

OK I have the cowl grill thing almost off - I actually think I see the problem. Only thing is I can't get the grill off all the way before of the wipers. Have been trying to figure out how to get them off, done several searches and everyone says to pry back the 'tabs' There is A tab I've been prying but am not sure if its right, attaching a picture. Is this is it? Or is it a different tab?

Yeah I'll run the water over it once I check this out - same kind of residue under the grill as is on the floorboard and looks like there's a hole or something on the driver's side. Just have to get the wipers off if someone can specify if those are the right tabs - don't want to create another problem to fix

Lift up the wiper arms and pull the lock out, once it's out all the way, lower the wiper arm and it will hold the lock in place. Mark which arm is left and right... they are different.

Alright so I got the grill off, here's a pic of a bolt on the driver's side, the grommet under the bolt is all worn out, could this be what is causing the leak? Let me guys know what you think....if not I'll go for the hose trick

Run the hose in that area.

Alright well just in case anyone else has this problem here's what it was -
I had to pull the sound deadener mat back to see it, but the grommet for the hood release cable had come loose and water was coming through there. I put the grommet back in, ran the water again and water was then coming in through the hole the cable goes through, although it was much less than before. As all of this work is in a very confined space, I proceeded to simply caulk the **** out of the grommet and cable so that it was completely covered....and no more leak! Attaching a picture, thanks for the help guys
