I just upgraded to the 4.10 gears and need to change my speedo gear in the transmission. Does anyone know which one I need and perhaps an easy place to get one? Thanks

Changing the speedo for the 4:10s is in the tune,I don't know if there is a gear to change
other then upgrade the tune itself.

^^^Yup, just need a "4:10 tune". You can contact Lidio at Alternative Auto and Marty at Mo's Speed Shop, right here in our Vendors Forum. Both are experts in tuning Marauders and have 4:10 tunes available. Plus they can answer all your questions. Lot's of us have used one or both shops with excellent results. Highly professional and honest.

"Yes I would agree".Mo's shop helped me all the way to MV XI
They could send a 410 tune through the email.

I didn't know they still used speedo gears. They don't. The speedo is driven by the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the tailshaft housing.

:concur: Speedometer gears seems to have been made as obsolete as chrome bumpers on a car.

And how is the VSS driven? By a gear.

True... but you can't change the gear to affect the speedo reading.

You can on tremec's, but don't know of a reason too as they can also be recalibrated on a dyno like mine was. But I've never heard of swapping the gear in a 4R70? I would assume there is different ones, but that would only solve speedo issues and not address the shift schedule.

Yes, you can. 4R70Ws have been around a long time and this is how we used to do it:

BUT!!! It is better to just do it in the tune.

I thought the speed sensor on the MM's worked off a tone ring/reluctor on the transmission tailshaft . The sensor counts the teeth and the tune calculates speed based on tire size/axle ratio.

Had to do this when I installed the AOD(4R70W insides) and 3:25 gears in my '64Fairlane. Pulled a gear out of a LTDII. Worked fine, but just to calibrate the speedo.

I've never seen/heard of anyone changing a VSS drive gear in an MM.
