Just wondering if anyone has done this, I'm wondering what it would look like.
S55 treatment on the tail lights, but instead of black paint using dark tint.
Has anyone done this?

If I find a set to play with, I might.

I just got an extra set. I was thinking about doing the S55 treatment to them. I wasn't sure how the tint would work. What kind of "tint" would I get?

I'm not sure what most people use, but something like this:

Ok. I heard that the hobby shop has some kind of spray tint also. I don't know how it would hold up in the Florida sunshine though.

I've seen the nightshades over the whole taillight - not bad but it's a flat almost light textured finish. The nice feature of the S55 treatment is that it blends into the body when painted IMHO.
Bottom line is it's your car - experiment and make it your own!

Exactly. I was just wondering if anyone had done it, and how it turned out.
If I can find a cheap set locally, I'll try it. Actually, I'll try it if I can find a cheap set of CV tails, don't want to mess up MM parts.

This is true but the link you posted Brad

says:
Warning: Once applied to a plastic lens, VHT Nite-Shades™ cannot be satisfactorily removed. For off-road use only.
Definitely find a pair of loaner taillights if you go this route.

Here's an example of the tinted rears, although I'm not sure what the prior owner used.

Having been rear-ended, I'm not a fan. I'm replacing the stock bulbs with very bright, 420 lumen LEDs (http://www.carid.com/2004-mercury-marauder-led-lights/lumen-led-lights-10264373.html) to compensate for the tint. Depending on the results, I might just replace them.

That second pic is tint with clear? Looks almost black. Do you have a closer pic? Night pic?

ive seen many cars with the tinted taillights, although im not sure what spray they used, a lot look uneven, darker/lighter in areas and IMHO crappy. however i assume if you did it correctly, it would turn out good. the problem i see with the tint is that they might look good in the day, but when you turn on the parking lights, it will show the imperfections on how thick the spray tint was applied, and would be hard for the average joe to do it exactly the same to both lights. all in all, i wouldnt do it.
