So I've got all my parts ready for a 4:10 install. I remember reading somewhere here about upgrading the diff clutches for Cobra parts? Are they different than the stockers? Worth it? Did a search but didn't really find what I was looking for . Thanks in advance for the help. Mike

You want the carbon fiber clutches. You can also add an additional clutch and upgrade the "S" spring.

Are these an aftermarket part offered by one of our vendors? Or where might I pick these up?

Get the parts from Sparta Performance, Tommy is a great guy and a vendor.

With the Carbon clutches you don't need the extra clutch. It won't fit like the old style.

All I found was a complete diff carrier assy. Can I just get the clutch pack & s-spring? Say it's OE on 03-04 Cobra's & GT-500's. Can I just order those particular parts here at the Dealer?

That is for 31-spline axles. The Marauder came with 28 spline axles so the carrier will fit but the axles won't.

Those are the cobra carbon fiber clutches. They are heavier duty than the stock paper type friction material. Although it says for non IRS mustang, it fits any non IRS 8.8 including the Marauder, and includes the thicker S spring.

I have installed both these, and the regular replacement 8.8 clutch kits, on Marauders. I don't believe in the extra clutch BS, use the stock stacking. The carbon clutch kit already comes with the correct selective shims so you don't have to worry about stack height/axle shaft end play. The regular kits come w/ an assortment of selective shims, I shoot for the low end of the axle end play spec (I think it's .005"-.015" per side, measured w/ a dial indicator on the axle shaft)

That's what I have installed on my 'Rauder. Works perfectly.

There's also several videos on youtube (that someone on this site posted I think) that show you the easy way to re-install the s-spring. I highly recommend watching and learning. Will save you time, bloody knuckles, and various curse words.

A buddy of mine who owns an '88 LX Foxbody mustang with a 306 FRPP crate motor, headers, and just about everything short of forced induction in the books bought this kit, installed it and left the s-spring out; yet leaves giant number eleven's everywhere he goes.

I recently began to perform the 1 wheel peel/one tire fire, leaving me to believe I need new clutches. I know the s-spring is a giant PITA to get in and out. Could I forego the use of said spring without any detrimental effects if I install this kit?

Youtube has many videos on how to install the "S" spring.

IMHO..... engineers designed it with the "S" spring so you need it.

Due to the curved nature of the spider gears when more torque is applied the tighter the clutch packs grab. The spring is mainly there for very low speed, low torque no traction situations like starting out in snow. Other than that, no big deal without the spring. My fox doesn't have a spring with carbon packs. No issues at all. Since the MM is my daily which includes snow driving I installed the spring.

You can also order the kit cheaper WITHOUT the spring. :)

Next time your differential fails, just get an Eaton Detroit Truetrac, and you won't have the problems of an OEM.
