I had the opportunity to be part of Jon Kaase's team this year. Some of the big names were there and I had the chance to meet and talk to a few of them. Needless to say it was pretty damn cool. The finals are today and Kaase's engine put down a huge score...waiting to see what happens with the other four.

Those headers are insane. Cool that you got to be a part of it! Kaase has some great engines.

600+ FT LBS at 3,500 rpm....N/A......:eek:

He has owned that competition for years!

3.720 stroke and a 4.7" stroke. With a Sullivan intake it was making 812hp at 7200 and the power was still climbing.

Wow that is awesome! Will those headers fit any production car? The torque is impressive. Modulars just aren't known for spectacular torque down low N/A. Hopefully the tech used in this can trickle down to the common market.

Yes, 600ft lbs at 3000rpm is impressive, even for much larger engines. It's possible to get decent tq from event the small mod motors but most people install the cams at lobe centers that are too high. The cams in Kaase's engine were installed at "stupid" low lobe centers by mod motor standards as were Mihovetz's. What I mean by "stupid" is that the intake LC is a two digit number.

Marauders, both n/a and FI would benfefit from much lower LCs than those that are commonly used. However, when I recommend these LCs people shy away from them because they aren't normal.

What is the piston speed at 7200 RPM on a 4.7" crank???
I don't know how Kaase can swing that crank around in that tiny Mod block.....:bows:

BTW: At 3.720"....That block must be like rice paper between the bores!

There's plenty of room in a 5.4 block.

What is the formula for the competition?
Avg torque x Avg horsepower divided by displacement....:dunno:

What heads were used....Ford GT or the new Shelby 5.8 heads?

BTW: I don't know how he figured out those crazy header's primary pipe pairings and routing, but that 4V engine is a low end monster!

That should just about cover the cost of those outrageous headers*!

He got 600 FT Lbs of torque out of a 409 CID N/A mill at 3,200 rpm and a peak of 675 Ft-Lbs....UFB!!!......:bows:

*Those lonnnnnnnng 8-to-4-to-2-to-1 headers are mostly responsible for all that low end torque.

BTW: I wonder if he has the same cylinder's intake and exhaust cam lobes ground different so that 1 of the 2 valves opens early along with the other 1 opening late,
inducing more swirl in the 4 valve cylinder head and creating better scavenging on the exhaust ports...?

Those headers are responsible for some of that tq as the engine made within 20ft lbs of that with standard stepped headers and a 2.5" merge collector.

The exhaust cams open the exhaust valves at the same time (just like stock).
