I saw this topic on another forum and thought it was really interesting and could be a big help to others looking to do modifications. In hindsight, what mods would you have not done and why?

All my modificartions were meticiously thought out to bring about a desired result and they have. No regrets.

1. Hood from Class Glass, getting a good one seems to a a roll of the dice.

2. Using sniper/deltaforce - commando software for tuning... in theory it's more powerful than SCT race driver or whatever it's called. However the templates for the Marauder are kinda messed up, and the after purchase support just isn't there. Even though I do ok with it now there are still simple things that would be much easier with SCT.

PI 3500 stall converter, though it did knock half a second off my 1/4 time it just was too much of a stall for an under powered stock engine. A 3000 would of been my ideal choice but couldn't pass up the low price and free shipping DR offered me on the converter.

hehe ya but your 10 second streetable MM is awesome. ;)

I had a P71, Modded that up then realized I should have had a Marauder.
I think I spend on mods almost as much as I did on the MM itself. :D

I wish I wouldn't have gotten the PI triple disc unit! ^^^ I got a 2800-2900 stall unit but the lockup is harsher than I'd like it to be. I should have gotten a Circle D single disc billet unit. Everything else mod wise I took my time and did it right and was happy with the choice.

The Shermanator speaks! Hey there how's your MM? Been to the drags? I ran a 13.8 with 3.73's n/a last weekend. My next mod will be a new engine.

Mine was pretty harsh. I put stock 2-3 back in and Mustang 1-2. Perfect now along with my tune, at least in my opinion.

+1 My regret too. I do have 20% on the rear window but wussed out on the others so my plan is 20% all around (except the windshield).

That was an extremely short regret on my first marauder. I went to a tint shop that had 4 levels: 50%, 35%, 20%, 6% (limo tint). I went to 35 all the way around but wasn't dark enough for my preference so I took back 2 weeks later and said put 20% on.

He said well we can do two things. Take 35 off completely and then reapply 20. That way you know it's 20 but it's twice a long job

Or

We can add another layer of 35 on top. It will get you down into the 20s dark where you like it but we just won't know what tint percentage you actually have. Could be higher, could be lower. Half the time. I said option B.

I was riding around with 11% :D:thumbup:

I'll second this one. I have had stall converters on other cars, so I knew better than to put one in this car. They are annoying for the modest improvement provided. Better to sink the money into improving the engine if you want to go faster.

Taking out the springs on a jmod. I put them back in.

Another wise insight. These trans do pretty well with a tune alone, be cautious when increasing fluid holes and increasing spring stiffness. Taking the accumulator springs out entirely . . .

This is my only regret, I actually did 32% up front and 22% rear window and its been getting worse and worse each year, now doesn't even look as if there's tint on it.

I will be re-doing it to limo tint all around except windshield. I don't drive it enough to piss cops off.

Turning down my boost from 16 to 10,then going on the
I-91 Interstate to test. Wrong move, I now have pics of
the results, three holes in the block, one on each side and
one in the valley. I have now purchased a Jasper re-man
had it installed and it is preforming excellent so far and
the boost is back up to 16.

Stogie, help me understand why less boost caused the engine to blow. I thought more boost would risk leaner run condition and bye-bye #8 piston/rod.

Thanks.

My regret is my spoiler. I wanted one so bad; and rather than track down a good OEM one; I bought a cheap painted to match one from eBay. Paint match was perfect; but fitment is terrible and it's pulling away from the car in so many spots. Ready to take it off and have a shop patch the screw holes and repaint it with no wing:(

2. Blowing up the motor (now officially a "mod," per post #12).
3. The first two transmission rebuilds (because I should have spent the money for hardened parts the first time).

that it does, but i have successfully used my single delta force tuner and a innovative lm-2 wide-band to tune my f250, marauder, my blown 00'gt, and my dads 2003 cobra. once you figure out how to work it, it isn't too bad.

i have used the SCT pro racer software before on my old 00' gt and it was pretty complicated to figure out, but it's by far the better of the two. the SCT has so many parameters to modify that it can be overwhelming if you are inexperienced at using tuning software. the sniper is much more user friendly for the average auto hobbyist IMO.
