View Full Version : How hard to adapt a Lightning 90mm to MM air-box?

I just bought a Saleen supercharger to put on my car. I will be keeping my stock MM air-box but wouldn't mind upgrading to a 90mm Lightning meter if it can be made work. Anybody done a L 90mm swap?

I'm going to be putting a 90mm lightning one on my car hopefully sooner rather then later but I'm waiting for a custom intake tube to go into production that'll have the couplers I'll need for the 90mm.

I'm not 100% sure on how the MM intake is setup but IIRC it has an 80mm MAF that is able to be unbolted and removed right? If so your going to need adapters most likely. And ones that are tapered or however you say it so it goes from smaller to larger to smaller again on the other side. Such as seen below by my crappy representation of it the small side funneled up to a large to the maf to a large funneled down to a small side. You don't want the air hitting a wall it'll hurt the flow.

Doing that will make the intake longer though. Might be worth it to look into a custom intake to get what you want out of it. What side is the inlet on the blower going to be drivers or passenger side?

Which Saleen blower did you get? I see in your signature for upcoming mods you mention a Steeda blower series one. IIRC during the earlier years when they were for 4.6 2v engines they used an M90 right? I hope your not going with a turdy M90 on a future built engine. But that's JMHO if it is an M90

The 90mm lighting maf will bolt up to the air box. It's the same bolt pattern, just the factory intake tube will not work since the maf is bigger and will require a 4" coupler. If you are using a different intake tube then you just need a reducer to mate the maf and tube.

It will bolt with same pattern to my air-box, great! That is exactly what I needed to know. As for the inlet tube, I will figgure that out after the supercharger is on.

Yes I will be running the turdy M90, it is still a step up from N/A. and with the Trickflow heads and cams it should make a respectable 2V. The whole reason I bought the Saleen series 1 is the ability to just flip the inlet to the drivers side.
