View Full Version : Car will not shift after doughnuts

It is stuck in park. All fuses are ok. I swaped a 40 under the hood and it worked!
I decided to get out, close the hood and leave... then it was stuck in park again.
The brake lights will not turn on. I am buying a new 40amp but why did it only work once?
The car is sitting in a grocery store parking lot, so I need to get to this fast.
Thanks!

I think the 40amp was just something strange that happened. Maybe the switch decided to work one more time for a second. Besides, I don't sell anything Marauder related because I want to. Other than the parts that were not on my car.

Hi
I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go
My job is to help destroy
What's left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses
Of sugar-coated mindless garbage
So don't create
Be sedate
Be a vegetable at home
And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll
How far will you go
How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill
You've turned rock and roll rebellion
Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the air
Get off the air
See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their tits and their dicks
As they lip-synch on screen
There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care
M.T.V. Get off the air
And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances.
Tin-eared
Graph-paper brained accountants
Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now
The lowest common denominator rules
Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game
But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?
M.T.V.-Get off the air!
NOW

Seriously? You drive it like its stolen, you beat the piss out of it and seem to be proud of it, yet when it has an issue its the cars fault?
Operater Error.... Seriously grow up and take some responsibility. If you wanna beat on the car, build the car right. Don't constantly put used parts on it and expect everything to be perfect. Buy quality aftermarket upgrade parts!
Or buy something new you can take to a dealer... maybe they would cover it under warranty, maybe not. At least you could b!tch about that versus your own ignorance.

If you changed the switch and it worked for a while, then you replaced the switch again and now it doesn't work, I'd look into the connector as being the issue. The 2nd replacement probably still works but voltage isn't getting to it. You may need a volt meter to verify.

Dom, after all the drama you've been through with this car, you CAN'T give up now. It's been a major part of your life for HOW long? Look at all the friends you've made though this car. You have to remember it's like a beloved pet...they get old a lot faster than we do and you have to cut them some slack when they pee on the rug once in a while.
gdsqdcr
10-24-2013, 06:44 AM
Let me see if I understand the issue.
You beat the crap out of the car.
When it breaks, you find some junkyard part to out on it.
Then the junkyard part does not to your problem.
The you blame the car?
Ummm, I think you should look up 'personal responsibility'. If that doesn't clear this issue up for you, look up 'cause and effect'. I doubt you could justify it to be the cars fault.
Someone else just posted in this forum about hitting 250k miles, with IIRC 166k miles boosted. I can't recall who it is, but I bet if you something fails he is not running to the local taxi can junkyard and pulling a part to replace it. If you are going to beat on it, expect it to break and to need to pony up the fund to repair it.

I agree, it is the cars fault, you should get rid of it. The mercury gods will thank you for doing so.
Looking through your posts is seems every car you have owned is a piece of junk. I wonder why that is? Maybe a look into a mirror will steer you to the real problem.

It was a wiring issue. The wires were hanging down by the shaft that holds the petal. So every time I would push the petal down it would halfway unplug the brake switch, thus making the brake lights not work. The wires were moved and now everything works fine.
No butthurt over here. About once a month the wife put her finger in my... nevermind.
No butthurt.

Motorhead350

Ladies and gentlemen, the actual issue was the plastic clip that supplies power to the switch. If you ever come across this problem, you can grab the correct clip in a junkyard. 2008 Crown Vics have a different setup, look for older cars in the yard. I managed with a 99 GM.
Junkyard are my friend. Clipped the wires, wired up the replacement and it was good to go. Brake lights active. Plus, this gave me an idea for a kill switch for the shifter and brake lights for the highways.

Yes it's caused by a bad brake light switch or brake light fuse. I may have missed it, but I didn't see an actual answer for how he can shift from park posted in this thread.
Dom, there is a bypass function that lets you shift from park while the brake lights are broken. Press down on the shifter knob button while the car is off and keep pressing it while turning the key and it will pop in. This will also let you shift from park without using the brakes at all.
I really hope that the reason this wasn't posted until now was because you guys didn't know about it and not because you wanted to shame him across the internet. :shake:
Joe Walsh
11-06-2013, 08:45 AM
Nope....I had no idea that you could do that!

Motorhead350
11-06-2013, 03:19 PM
That bypass is how i got home. Turn the ignition at a 12 o clock position andthe shifter will work. I shifyed it into N started it and drove home.
Again the plastic power supplier for the brake is what i broke... thus no wire connection, no brake lights.
