View Full Version : Hard stop triggers "brake" light in cluster

On the way home tonight I had to do a quick slow down/stop to avoid annihilating my neighbor's cat, not a panic stop by any means, but more than a normal stop. Toward the end of the stop, the red "brake" light in the cluster came on. The same light that is intended to come on when the parking brake is set, which it was not. Release the brakes, light goes out. I was able to duplicate it again before I got home. This has never happened before, in any vehicle much less the Marauder. What could be causing this?
Could it be related to the issue it has sometimes in which, at low speed applying the brakes (like to slow and park) takes away steering assist and essentially locks it until the brake pedal is released?

Hmm perhaps fluid is low because its time to do a brake job? Better check the pads ;)

Fluid low Fo Sho.
Don't just fill it. It's low because your pads need replacing. Inspect rotors while your in there. Curless informed me stress cracks are not factory vented rotors, I still think he trying to pull one over on me

So low fluid can really cause that? I always thought that was part of a dedicated parking brake circuit, learn something new every day.
It could stand a brake job, they're not horrible but that was one of the 2 big "it'll needs" when I bought it. And all this just reminded me that Russ remarked on my fluid level at the Ford show

And before anybody thinks I neglect my car, it's not very far below the "max" line, but I guess it's more sensitive than I thought. I guess it's time for brakes, and SS lines :D

it's not very far below the "max" line, but I guess it's more sensitive than I thought. That's exactly correct. Same issue happened to Mary a few years ago. Filled the reservoir right to the MAX line and no more light.

Just check pads. If all looks good add a little fluid.
I've seen people just add fluid without checking the pads then a couple months later they wonder why brakes are grinding :shake:

when I saw your car at the show I notice your fluid was down and we talked about it.
you can add a little fluid but i would look at addressing the brakes.
