Thanks guys. It took me 3 motors to do it, and about a year of learning. It's had an air to air intercooler, non intercooled meth injection, and now an air to water. Thankfully these motors are really cheap and that I have some friends always willing to help with the car. Definitely a feeling of vindication. I knew the car had it in her, I just had to prove it to myself.

You're telling me! It needs more injector, pegged the 95s, 120s are oh the way. And I really want a billet PTC converter. That would give me a couple tenths and a couple MPHs, and slip less up top keeping the turbo in its efficiency range. Those converters are $1000 so I'll probably have to wait on. Other than that, just enjoy the car and park it this winter while its a running car. It'll be the first time in 3 years I don't have a blown up car in my garage for the winter.

No dyno Wow. You do all your tuning at the track? What software are you using and where do you start your base tune?
Yea, just track tune. Megasquirt targets AFs for me, so I just set the AFs I want at certain RPMs and loads (boost values) and that covers the fuel.
And a friend of mine who has dyno tuned more junkyard LS stuff than probably anyone in the world, and that has also taught me a ton about tuning gave me a timing table that has always worked for him.
Is there more in it if I throw timing at it? No clue. I have what some would call an incredibly conservative tune in. I think its pretty much spot on. I pulled a degree one 8th mile pass a few weeks ago, then put it back in the next pass and it picked up enough for me to know that the motor wanted it. And then I left it alone. I honestly cannot see it picking up anymore with anymore timing.
The car already makes like 50-75more WHP than I expected, so I'm sure I'm right in the middle of the sweet spot. Tons of LS guys (mostly guys that have never tuned a car in their life) have told me I need to put more timing in it. In the past when I listened to those people, I ended up pulling a motor. My gut tells me this is the tune. and even if it would take more timing safely, I wouldn't put it in because the [censored] thing is already so freaking fast, I'd be worried that it would break something else in the driveline.
CameronVic

Precisely. You should see my injector load in 2nd gear compared to 3rd gear. Same rpm, same boost, and 3rd gear wants like 10% more fuel. Megasquirt is so awesome, I tell it to target 11.4, and it does it. It didn't in 3rd gear because I'm completely out of injector, but it did give it all the fuel it could. Hence the 120lb injectors coming in the mail. Then I'm sure it'll be 11.4 the whole pass again!

That i know, to get drivablity done. Figured dyno to get the feel of what the motor will do, before subjecting it to track dity.

No bumper supports, heat or AC, no e brake, cut the lower core support out and fabbed a tubular one up to make room for the A2W, no front sway bar. That's pretty much it. Oh, and took out all the evap stuff, and the stock steel fuel tank.
Yeah I know thats gas scale. So is .78 lambda the sweet spot?;)Idk, LOL. I've had it at 10.9 and I put it at low 11s and it seems to like it. I don't know anything about lambda, so I'm not gonna try and sound smart. LOL. I just give the car what it likes, and keep the timing safe, that seems to make the motor live! LOL!
Blown3.8
10-29-2013, 01:09 PM
1.00 Lambda is Stoich for all fuels. And .78 Lam is 11.48 for gasoline. And .78 Lam for E85 is 7.68 or so, not sure of the actual stoich of E85. Stoich for gas is 14.7 and E85 9.85 I think. That is why you need so much more injector and pump for E85 and also why fuel mileage is poor on E85. You need to inject more. But also why you make more power on it than even regular race gas, because of the oxygen content in the fuel itself. Short lesson over.:)
I definatly felt a difference from 10.9 to 11.5 on the E85

Altho the gas max power rich/lean looks to be for a non boosted application. I really need to get some EGT data one day. To see what EGT's are at 11.7 on gas, see if they are anywhere close to 1600*. All I know is on nitrous and blower at about 13.5 AFR for 10.5 seconds was not good.:(
