Some of the MM's I was looking at had little creases from the tie-downs on the car carriers. These show up on the door frames above the windows. Mad Man's silver had them, I just noticed my black one has it. It is very minor, none the less, its there. Dealer says its on most cars and they fix the most noticable ones. Do I bring it back and have them fix it - he says they use dent busters but really can't do much with small ones. Any one else see this on yours?

I was wondering what those were.
I started looking for frame damage.
Thanks

I have those too Mary,... I thought it was caused by improper door adjustment.

I have no paint chips or paint blemishes so as mentioned they must have protected the paint, but one of those pics does look like there is a little bending of the door frame, that's what I am referring to.

Well I don't know how I missed that original thread, but I have been trying to buff that spot off for over a year! Now I know, damn...tie downs of all things.
I only have the one on the drivers side sill.

I have that as well on my car. I could not figure out how the door could hit the body of the car like that. My doors when closed are not even close to hitting the body in that spot, now. So that is where it came from. So now I just have to try and buff it out.
Mine is also only on the driver's side.

Well, I'm pissed. I've got one on the door frame on the drivers side. Looks like a little rust dot. I'm going to ask the dealer to fix it Friday. I think they'll just use touch up paint.
Darn tie downs. Can't they think of anything better to use. Maybe a little padding.

If you look even closer, you will see creases in the in the top part of the door where it meets the the roof line.:(
I have seen this on cars still on the lot...not good...not good at all.

I too have noticed these creases & dents on cars still on the lot...it appeared to my eye to be poor body prep since the paint was not disturbed...it seemed much more noticeable on Silver Birch than DTR or Black...however my eye is not what it used to be !

Steve,
I have this on my car also, just the drivers door.
The other three doors are perfectly aligned to the body.
The Driver's door is not line up at all.
How to tie downs contribut to this ?
The Tie Downs strap the FRAME to the Car Carrier.
Where does the door alignment get affected ???

I haven't seen one delivered so I can't confirm but from what I am told the tie-down goes up and over the car. In 03 they had paint problems, in 04 they at least put cushioning material between the tie-downs and the car. I guess some truck drivers tighten these tie-downs before the suspension of the car is held in one place so as the truck moves the car is allowed to bounce up and down. They are supposed to compress the suspension first then put the tie-downs over the car.

NO WAY, AFTER 14 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS I NEVER seen a car w/ tie downs across the top. The car gets tied down from below. They attach straps/chains to the frame holes on the bottom. On unibody cars, the heavy gauge wall that looks like a frame welded to the bottom has holes in it for the carriers to attach too. Are you on crack?

I don't think those pictures posted are from tie-downs. I also have this mark above the front drivers side door. It wasn't there when I first bought the car and it has slowly grown in length over time. I try to close my door as gentle as possible so as not to make it any worse. Could the body and/or door be flexing during hard cornering enough that would cause them to come in contact & abrade the paint?

Since when have truckers known anything?

I've taken it in already for this and had the hinges replaced and paint touched up....did nothing. Came back a little time after.

I agree with joflewbyu2.
I have seen covered car carriers and regular carries.
NONE of them strap the car down over the top.
For whatever reason, the driver's door doesn't line up correctly and needs to be adjusted.
I will ask my dealer about this and see what they say.
I will probably have to take it to the body shop, since all body related work is only done in the body shop.
I have to pass through there anyway to have the trunk springs tightened.

Look at EbonyMarauder03's post.
His dealership found an EXTRA Body mount cushion between the frame and the body of his Marauder, right below the A Pillar !!!
Would this affect the Door Alignment ??
