Who could hear anything over the sound of drunks barfing in the back seat of your Vomit Comet?

That is nothing compared to what I see with cabs at work. The drivers even run them until the axle snaps off...seen that more than I should. We've also replaced a lot of axle housings as they wore right through the bearings and the axle shaft rides on the axle tube itself turning it blue and distorting the top of the tube.

Holy crap! Yeah, ended up having to replace this housing too. Really pissed me off cuz I had to warranty it. Service manager and warranty clerk denied claim, but some one at headquarters bitches to Ford and viola, a new housing, axles etc are sitting in my stall. I don't care how many units they buy, that's straight bull.

I'd be willing to bet they warranteed it because it was for an in service police vehicle.

my wife did that with a 88 cv wagon, drove it home smoking, no oil. didnt hear or feel a thing!, got lucky and could use the repair bearing w/ seal driven deep (w loctite) and a new axle.

My dad told me the story of when my mom was driving our brand new 1971 Ford wagon down the road and a rear wheel bearing went out. The bearing was smoking and finally was trailing bits of flaming oil and melting metal from under the car. A passing fire truck turned around, pulled in behind her and stopped her to put out the fire. Car was towed to the dealer and fixed under warranty too.
