View Full Version : How to raise idle speed

Yet another question - tried looking around for this but couldn't find what I was looking for. I installed a 250amp alternator and at idle it's around 600 or 700, and apparently this is not fast enough for the alternator, ESP under load voltage starts dropping below 12 and alternator will not charge until I get it up to 800-900rpm. Called the company I got it from and they said I need to increase the idle speed, so how do I do this?? Need it up to 900, sometime the car stays at 700-800 but then drops to 600 and the alt stops so I figure 900 would be a safe bet

Can only be done through the tune.

Did you use the OEM pulley or did one come on the new alt?
If one came on alt, compare diameters. If new one bigger, may just have to swap the OEM one to new alt.
Good luck! :D

Yeah it's stock pulley, ok so how does one acquire this tuner/how much does it usually run? Also is this something I could figure out how to do myself or something I need to have someone who knows what they're doing do. And finally could I just take it somewhere and say hey raise my idle speed! Or does it not work like that

Contact either Martyo or Lidio for a tune and tuner.

Unless you're friends with an SCT dealer who is willing to go into your tune and adjust only that one parameter for a nominal charge.
You really want a full tune anyway. The stock transmission shift schedule blows and it's worth the price of admission just to get that fixed, but a good tune from one of our supporting vendors will really wake the car up and make it perform more like it SHOULD have from the factory.

^^^^^^ Definitely the way to go. Fix your idle issue plus improved performance. Win/Win.
