View Full Version : Rejected from emissions, what to do?

Apparently, their computer cannot communicate with mine. I just fixed all of my engine codes too. The car is functioning fine.

Does a dealer have to turn the computer communication system back on? Should I disconnect the battery right before another test? Does it need a new tune?

Any help appreciated.

Get under that dash with a flashlight and look directly into the ODB port. I had a bent pin before and had to straighten it out. If you do have a bent pin, disconnect the battery before trying to gently align it.

It's not unusual for a blown fuse to cause that exact symptom, but don't disconnect the battery as you will reset all the monitors resulting in an automatic failure at your inspection station.

I have been plugging in my tuner just fine. Even after inspection. I might just go to another station. I requested another and they would not allow it. Let's just say I left my patience at home today.

Any idea what fuse for this situation? Maybe not which one, but what should I search for in the manual that can be linked to this? Not LCM I take it?

I'm not sure which fuse ... take a test light and look for any blown fuses in both fuse panels.

Not sure why their 'computer cannot communicate' with your Marauder's OBD2 computer....sounds like they're full of BS.
If you could read and clear codes from your Marauder's computer, then it should be functioning correctly.

I do know that if you clear CEL codes just before going to the Maryland emissions test you will NOT pass.
The car has to go through some minimum number of run cycle/hours after clearing a code in order to pass the computer check.

Dom, what tune are you running?

Per new laws that were implemented this year in IL, most performance tunes will not pass. I had to flash back to stock to pass mine.

Do you have collector plate status in your state, the rarity of our cars qualifies and then your car may be exempt from testing like here in Ohio.

You have to drive it for a while for the system to be ready. Wait a week or two and try again. Do not disconnect the battery.

Sorry to hear it Dom... :(

I am glad all these laws changed, keeps me employed.

Luckily I live in a state without testing!

This ^ my truck wouldn't pass because of no communication. 2 min with a power probe to find out 12v cig lighter fuse was blown. Replaced and passed. If you do disconnect the battery, drive it and make sure to check readiness status. Otherwise you will waste your time.

When a lot of my sensors came up "not supported", I had to return tune to stock and drive car about 70-100 miles over a few days to have all sensors reset. Then it passed.

THIS

The Chebby boys got it easy they can set the sensors to read OK instead of Not Supported which is considered failing now.

There is a way around emissions testing completely without registering your car in a different nonemissions testing area, using emulators, or any of that BS. If it isn't against MM.net rules I'll post it. If not PM me I'll tell ya what to do. After they failed me for all the things changed to Not Supported I was a little mad so I went the other route to get around it totally and the day I got my letter of exemption I cut the cats out.

That reminds me I need to send someone an email address about this

That's all unless you have the car back to completely stock. If you have it all stock then just run a stock tune

Alright, here is what's happening. I am still able to use my Xcal2, to clear codes. Thus, making it possible to communicate with the computer. Yesterday, it did tell me unable to read, but when it said this, I noticed I needed to push it in a little more and it worked.

So, I am with Joe saying this was BS at the emissions center, but what about a stock tune? If I go "Back to stock" I do not lose my current tune do I? That is my biggest concern.

I have three tunes in the thing right now. Street, Race and Winter (different tire size) If I go back to stock and pass, I can pull up one of these and things will be the same again correct?

Yes.

In MA, if you fail you can get one free retest as long as you go back to the same station, but just to be safe, you should prolly go back to stock anyway. That way if it turns out the tech just didn't have the connector plugged in properly, you're still covered.

Just remember that you need to be sure all the I/M monitors are ready or you will fail again. Google "Ford Drive Cycle" for the procedure. If you have a friend with a good code reader, those can usually tell you the OBD readiness state.

Ok. I will go back to stock. I got an extension until the end of Jan, but I wanna take care of this while I have time.

I might change the plate too, not sure if I can change the place before I pass emissions.

Read what you just wrote a couple times.

HA!

I told the emissions people they screwed up. They do not believe they make mistakes. Ever.

Or your connector is intermittent.
