View Full Version : In atlanta need help with timing chain
Hello Everyone. I've my 03 MM since 06, and its been very good to me. I think my timing chains guides are bad. My car taps real bad when I rev the motor up, and its coming from the front of the motor. I would like to know if its any one in Atlanta or near it that can help me out. I'm mechanically inclined a little, so I'm not bad with my hands. Please let me know what you guys think.

Being "mechanically inclined a little" is not a good scenario for changing timing chains IMHO.... next we'll see a post on how come my car runs rough.....

recommend draining your oil and looking and whats left in the drain pan, if your chains are worn out, it will dust the aluminum and plastic guides and you will see what looks like fine sand in the pan. Use a quart of engine flush and run for 5 minutes from cold to thermostat just cracking to break up the varnish and release the particulate. the adjusters have been known to have gasket failures, then the chains run loose. Big job to change, expereinced help is required

Exactly what I was looking for. I should have been more specific.
