If I remove my oil filter with the engine full of oil, will it be a huge mess or like any other removal?

Drained oil, filter would not come off, lost tool, put fresh oil in with old oil filter attached.

So again, can I simply change the filter and not lose a ton of oil or do I have to drain the whole engine and put it back in?

Thanks.

No difference (unless you take filter off with the engine running - then you have a mess)

Hey -if you lose the oil filter wrench then you can always use a screw driver /hammer method. Just hit it hard enough to put it inside the filter and use the screwdriver to turn it. Dont have to turn it much usually to break it loose. Remember put a little clean oil around the rubber ring of the new oil filter and only tighten it hand tight. You will also be down some oil so get a new quart to add to the motor.

I did that once and do not wanna do it again. The main reason was because I never freed the filter and then the vehicle leaked, it was no longer drivable.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I bought another tool.

Don't use a tool to tighten. Put on tight by hand. Should come off by hand.
