I have noticed a slight oil smell and residue coming from the little oil cooler thing that sits just under where the oil filter is located. Does anyone have a step by step for removal of this items failing gasket? Will this require me to get into the cooling system ie,...loss of coolant during removal and bleeding air out of the system? Any tech advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, bad gasket. Sometime there are two gaskets installed from the factory.

Drain cooling system
Remove lower radiator hose
Disconnect the oil pressure sending unit
Remove oil filter
Remove the bolts, adapter and gasket
Clean and inspect the adapter
If metal particles are found in the adapter, replace the adapter
To install reverse the removal procedure, using a new gasket
