Maybe get a slightly bigger sub, 8 inches, and just drill the hole out? 6.5...man, that's midrange if you ask me:D

SIVERMARUADER,

Even though you stole away the Chopper Challenge high score, I'll provide the 411...

Valleyman and I installed the Rockford Fosgate RFP4406, a 6 1/2" 4 ohm sub (mid, whatever) woofer in the factory enclosure. Modification will be required for fitment. See the following link:

I got mine from SoundDomain.com, but it's discontinued there. A google search brought up a few places where its still available.

I wound up swapping out the OEM sub amp with a Rockford Fosgate 200S. Couldn't be happier for under $250. See the following link for the amp install:

Hey JD, was the factory amp just not driving the Fosgate as well as you would have liked? How was just the sub replacement overall in your opinion?

SIVERMARAUDER,

I'm still gunning after your chopper :uzi:.

Barry,

Here's the short story: IMO, the factory amp isn't capable of driving any subwoofer properly.

Here's the long story: The power wire is maybe 18 gauge, which is only good for 4 amps max power transmission. For arguements sake, lets assume the OEM amp has a 50% efficency and its gain is set so as not to exceed the power handling capability of the factory wiring. This would work out to 30 watts or so peak to a 4 ohm load. Hook a sub (mid, whatever) woofer rated at 150 watts RMS to it and expect much of an improvement is asking a bit. Even with porting the enclosure, gains were minimally appreciated, so that's why I 86'ed the OEM amp.

My new amp is wired and fused for 15 amps. It's rated at 200 watts RMS bridged to a 4 ohm load at full gain. It drives the sub (mid, whatever) woofer nicely. With the aftermarket 6x9's, I now rarely listen to music past 1/2 of full volume now because its plenty all around for me.

If I wanted to irritate the neighbors, I would have gone with the twin 10's and got a big amp to drive them properly. I just wanted 1) to hear the bass drums and bass guitar like they were meant to be heard 2) not spend too much performance mod $'s, and 3) keep everything tucked up nice and neat underneath the package tray.
