Lmark...your ride is ready!

Well some of you know that Lmark has been having drive ability and weird ghost type issues with his DTR, especially in the rain...has had it to a few different places and spent lots of $$$ trying to get it fixed. Two weeks ago Bill and TJ brought their MM up to us so we could take a crack at it.

First things first, scan the computer for codes and see what the car sees...look into the list of codes that we pulled out of it....all 6 of them each for a different issue:eek:

Hmm, things don't add up, can't be that many issues all at once...start searching for a glitch in the matrix...there has to be a pinched, crossed, corroded, broken, chaffed wire somewhere.... Check all of the known spots, valve cover, radiator saddle...found a ton of water in the right front harness behind the bumper (thank you Zack for the heads up)...hmm, no corrosion though...this sux!:mad2:

Start tracing each individual wire to each sensor that has a code associated with it...voltages are all wrong...hmmm....disconnect ECU and ohms test.....hmmm....WTF????:censo r::censor::censor:

Pull the front bumper cover and the inner fenders out to get at the entire harness......Dis assemble the fuse block and power distribution center...all good. Tear all of the tape and looming off of the entire harness so we can dry it out on the passenger side. while its drying out move to the driver's side....Take the looming all loose from the fender and.....WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???? BAM there it is...Driver's side fender well harness...8 wires cut open and green as can be!:eek:

Upon further investigation we find that at some point in time some one has drilled two 5/8 holes in the inner fender on the car and when they did they went right through the plastic and into the harness...cutting the wires...when it would rain the voltage would cross into all of the wires at once. WOW!

Two rolls of electrical tape and tons of heat shrink later the wire harnesses were placed back where they came from, completely sealed so they can't get water in them anymore. We then silconed a couple of plugs into the holes on the wheel wells and put them back as well. HOLY CRAP! That was a ton of work! I now know more about the Marauder wiring harness then I ever wanted to know! Once we repaired the harness we then went back and double checked our voltages and everything was normal. Cleared the codes out and have started driving her. So far so good! Here's a few pics of what we had going on...

Wow glad you got it figured out. This is one reason I hate working on all things electrical on my car. I have a bad taste in my mouth from my old 68 Cougar. Could never find the source of my grounding/electrical problem. Since then, I've never been a fan of doing electrical work. I'm afraid I would end up in L. Mark's boat and having to dismantle practically the entire car to diagnose and fix.

Thank you just doesn't seem enough on this job. Considering I realy haven't had a dependable car since 4 months after purchase. Like chris said, had it to everybody here that I trusted enuff to no avail...Take a risky move and drive it to GR to Curless Auto and hope for the best. Not to say that I didn't have complete faith but after so many..."This is the problem, it is fixed now" speaches I kinda got pessimistic. But after dropping it off an walking away...:shake:...I felt hope for the first time...Then after convincing myself that the little bi**h wouldn't give up her secrets easy and I would be without her till after X-mas, again no reflection on Chris's skills, I got a call a mere week and a 1/2 saying problem has been found...This is were I did the Happy Dance...in private...and after see pics, I'd have to say...YUP! problem solved!!!! I couldn't have asked for a better X-mas present...I just hope there is a bow on the car when I pick it up...maybe a centerfold on the hood(not Chris)...

Drove her home in a downpoor 90% of the way and nooooo issues. Ran fine sounds even better!!!!
