I've noticed since I replaced my fuel pump my sending unit has not worked as it did previously. I filled the car up after it was tuned at MO's and it worked fine. When we drove it back to Al., the hand worked fine and went down to 1/2 tank before I filled it up again. This time my hand only went up to 3/4 tank. It stays there and only moves a little. Car was about empty last time I filled it up because it took 15 gal, but hand was still at 3/4 tank. I didnt bend or put the float in any type of bind when i replaced the pump. Could it be set in at a bad angle? I dont know what the tank looks like inside where the pump and float sits as I didnt drop the tank to replace the pump. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.:alone:

Check the last think you changed. So, my guess is that is what is causing your problem.

I would say something is hung up inside the tank. It only makes sense that it was working fine and the first tank of gas that went through it things went screwy...pull the sender out, you'll find it hung up on something...

Thanks for the quick response. I wonder if there are some pics of the inside of the tank posted somewhere. I am planning on simply removing all the bolts that hold the pump in and just reseat the unit. If I knew what it looked like in the tank I'd have an idea of how it needs to be seated.

You've got the wires for the pump tangled up in the arm for the float...that is the only thing that usually holds the gauge in one spot...or your first thought is right and the sender went bad...very unusual for it to go bad at 3/4...usually empty or full.

Gotcha! I'll take a look at it and report back. Thanks again.

As I promised I'd report back what the problem was and I found it. Kind of embarrassed, but s**t happens. A factory zip tie somehow got closed into my tank when I replaced the pump. I guess I never noticed it being caught between the housing and the tank as I was focused on not damaging the sending unit. Loosened all the bolts and let the pump hang in the tank and noticed it sitting there. Pulled it out the tank then turned the switch on. Gas hand working again. Thanks all once again.

White tie that's broke in 1/2 was the culprit

Glad it was a simple fix, and thanks for reporting back...so many times we never hear what the result was.

Yessir! I love this forum. Only bad thing about the process is I had to drain out about 5 gal of gas. I didn't know how much was in it. I actually thought it was low since I was driving pretty hard the last time I was in it to try to run most of the gas out. Only when I loosened the bolts did I find out how much was actually in it.
