When I first purchased my MM the remote key fob would lock the doors and the lights would flash but the horn never chirped. The owner's manual shows how to change the lights and horn when fob locks the car. Using the instructions I was able to get two lock modes working:
1) lock but no lights or horn -or-
2) lock with lights flash and horn chirp on with one lock press.
I know there are more than 2 modes on the MM because I can't get it to go back to the original mode: lights flash only.
On a business trip I rented a 2004 Mercury Sable and the fob would flash the lights when locked and chirp the horn if lock was pressed again. I want to figure out how to chirp the horn on the second lock button press like the Sable.
I contacted Ford Customer service. They pointed me to the owners manual (a Microsoft answer). The service manager @ my local dealer just wanted me out of his office. His answer: "leave he car with me for a few days." Probably to go joy riding.
Anyone know how to get to the other lock modes? Perhaps this is in a shop manual somewhere?

Just the otehr day i was thinking about this. My car has always honked the first time I press the lock buton, but all the other fords I've had or used acted the way you described about the sable. I'm interested if anyone knows the answer.

I will look tomorrow through my service information on what modes are available. I know when I checked my owns manual to kill the horn there were only two modes. Check back Thursday afternoon for an answer from me.

i did the mode w/ no horn and no lights which is not what i wanted.i just wanted the lights w/o horn.so i guess i'll have to put it back to the horn and lights cause i need to see it at night.but according to the manual you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I hate to sound 'microsoft' as well...but it is clearly described in the owner's manual. Someone must have turned the horn beep option off. I reprogrammed mine not to beep on locking the day after I took delivery. The horn beep is so....annoying. And everyone else's car does it as well.

first off--always sign on the service sheet the mileage of your mm when you bring it it and circle it!!! Let them know you know!!! Second if at all possible never let them drive it , at least not without you,...---or leave it with them alone---in my case, I cannot let that happen at all-I must be with-in eye sight at all time of my baby--once you get a S/C you'll understand---$$ investment!!/Others wanting to play= problems!!

I turned the horn beep option off as soon as I got my MM (I ust followed the directions in the owner's manual). Here's why. After twenty plus years in the criminal justice system in a metropolitan area, I may have some experience and knowledge that other folks in different lines of work may not have access to and may want to take into account in deciding whether to ""de-beep."
Carjackers have described to me that it is the horn function that alerts them to which car to target in a large crowded parking lot when they are working the lot on foot waiting for a mark. (It doesn't have to be for a carjack, it might just be for a robbery or a purse snatch.) It is too conspicuous for them to follow a woman through the parking lot of a mall to her car. Thanks to the "beep" function they tell me they don't have to. They can appear to engage in innocuous behavior while walking through the lot so as not to arouse the suspicions of security agents. They then identify a target and head for it when it beeps -- knowing that the car is unlocked and about to be entered by someone holding keys that will start the vehicle. Of course at night the flashing headlights are a giveaway. Just my .02 cts. worth, not meant to flame anybody.

This is from the shop manual, and it appears there is only provision for the horn and has nothing to do with the lights:

<META content="Autolock and Horn Chirp Programming" name=tps_proctitle>NOTE: This procedure must be completed within 30 seconds.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
Press the UNLOCK button three times.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Press the UNLOCK button three times.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm entry into program mode.
Press the UNLOCK button once to toggle the autolock feature on or off, or twice to toggle the horn chirp function on or off. The door will lock and unlock to confirm toggling of the autolock and horn chirp feature.
Exit program mode by turning the ignition to OFF or START.
I hope this answers your question.

Thanks for looking into this. Looks like the instructions from the shop manual are the same as in the owner's manual. I am thinking now of trying to get a look @ the 2004 Mercury Sable owner's manual to see if it has more details than the MM. Back to the dealer.....

Got bored during lunch and went back to my local LM dealer. I looked at a few owners manuals. None say anything about the other lock modes on Ford vehicles. All had the same instructions as my MM. They had an '04 MM on the show floor. It works like mine: lights flash and horn chirp on one button press. The salesguy thought that was wierd. He thought the horn would not go until two button presses. We went out on the lot and tried an '04 Lincoln LS. It had the mode I want: lights flash on one press, horn chirp on the second. The salesguy had no clue how to program this.
Went back to service. One of the service assistants tried a 2002 Expedition waiting to go into a service bay. It also had the mode I want. He had me pull my car in and tried to program it himself. He could not get it to program at all (because he wasn't doing the final step, per the book). The service techs were out to lunch. If I bring the car in they'll get it to work, he says.
Conclusion: The other lock modes are likely available on most, if not all, late model Ford, Lincoln, and Mercs. Just have to figure it out.

I feel your pain here...that's why I will make one last post to this thread:
I have a Lincoln LS, I know what you speak of and how the lights and horn work with the FOB.
The Marauder DOESN'T work this way, won't, and never will...no matter how many books you read nor how many saleman you inquire with, nor how many F/L/M cars you compare with.
Coming from an owner, here's how it works:
If the beep has been disabled thru programming as instructed in the marauder owner's manual, the lights WILL NOT flash, nor will the horn beep. Period.
If you read the marauder owner's manual, follow the written instructions, and re-program the horn to beep...it will, and the lights WILL flash.
On the other hand. If you turn the knob on the headlight dimmer switch to have the headlights on delay, the lights will come on when you UNLOCK the car with the FOB. They do NOTHING when you lock the car with the FOB.
This happens whether the beep has been disabled or not.
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS, THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH.
I suggest you read your marauder owner's manual and re-program the BEEP, and your result will be the factory setup as the car was originally delivered.
CASE CLOSED.:baaa:
