Help!!!!! Started out cold and got steady O/ D "on". Was doing about. 40 mph. Put shifter in neutral and killed engine. Restarted and o/ d lite was off but " ck eng lite" came on immediately. Still steady after about 20 miles of city driving. Would disconnecting the battery for a while put it out ? In the owners manual it says not to shut down engine at high speed ?????? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Maury

Disconnect would reset battery. I would stop at an autozone and get the code read at least first...

Find out what the code(s) is 1st. When the codes are read they can erase them also so you can see if they come back or if it was a 1 time fluke.

If the check engine light is on and flashing, then it means you should stop driving it as soon as can and have it checked. When check engine light is just on
it means it has detected a fault parameter and have it checked when you are able as in it is not some emergency. When the check light flashes, it will usually start putting the car into safe mode so one is able to get it off the road safely.

So get the code read to be able to determine possible causes...

Maury, definitely get the code read before doing anything else. It may be something stupid and simple, but it could just as easily be more critical.

When I disconnected my battery to replace it my EATC got screwed up.
Maybe it was a coincidence... I dont think so.

Can you explain a bit more? There's is no way disconnecting the battery should have had any effect on anything other than losing your radio station presets.

Will clear the code, lose all fuel adaptions etc... just not the best first step to diagnosing a failure in fact it does nothing to help diagnose the failure.

Careful with Autozone. The ones around here will not clear codes...:mad2:

I had a fuel cap not replaced correctly (NJ law say you can not pump your own gas)any way my friend at the body shop check and just took the cap off and put it back correctly.

I hope your is this simple!

Actually it doesn't even effect this...I had mine out for several days and still kept all my presets...:)

Took the Marauder to my old mechanics from my original dealership and in 30 min drove out happy and shiny washed car------ they wouldn't take a dime---- said it was my Christmas present. The code said "gear position monitor" or something g like that. Oil was leaking thru the seal where the sensor is attached to the tranny. Cleaned things up and light is out and shifting is smoother. 90 percent of the time I pull away from a stop I start locked in 2nd and manually shift to 3rd because of Ginny's neck injury. They saiid this is what probably caused the leak. Also sat in an ' 03 Marauder with 506,000 miles on it--2nd engine and tranny--a Sherriff's car. Merry Christmas everybody. Maury

Yep it was the original seat, but he had a topper cushion with cover. The shop foreman told me that both bumper covers are original !!!!!!! It is in for rough shifting in the rebuilt tranny. Body doesn't show any signs of damage and wheels look great . Gives me optimism for keeping the bird for a long time. Have fun, Maury

Great to see you are still kicking. The old crew from North Hills Mercury bought out the shop and parts dept and moved into the North Hills Body Shop building and brought their top mechs with them. They are struggling and could use your business. They have done some big jobs for me recently and beat dealers by $200-600. Give them a call
