I dug up btvollmuth's extreme headlight restoration thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83336). There was discussion about putting a "film" on afterwards or Clear Coating the headlight lense after. So, my question is, if you were to go ahead and clear the light, at what point would you do that? Before or after you polish the lights to the super finish he had?

The clear (UV sealer) or film would be used after you refinished the lenses

I know the "film" goes over after it is polished. But, at what point would you clear the lights?

Either one are the final step to use for protection,, your choice of protection ! I think some people use the film as it offers protection from road debris They both will block UV which breaks down the plastic

I sanded my lights down clear to 2500 grit then just used a rag and cleaned them off then I left them hazy and sprayed the U-Pol right over it. Did a couple coats then you can polish after that. I tried the film but did not like it so now i just buff the lights when the car gets waxed. They look great.

I'm not much of a painter. But, I figured you would not be able to put the clear over the shiny polished lenses. I guess they have to be sanded lightly, THEN, painted.

The U-Pol will adhere better to the sanded surface and it still comes out crystal clear. I was very happy with the results.

I did that to a used set that I had and they turned out great. I then installed Laminex right over them. Did it about 2 yrs ago. They still look great in the TX heat sun etc. I don't garage my car either. Only b1tch I have is that the Laminex shrunk ever so slightly around the edges. I suppose when I do the original set from the car I will use this stuff instead. Has anyone tried it?
