Has anyone experienced a groaning noise (similiar to the sound of a radiator fan hitting the shroud due to a bad motor mount) coming from under hood area on light accleration? Generally does not occur more than once per day. Everthing looks good and don't know what to make of this--------PLEASE COME TO MY AID!

not to scare you but my neighbors 02 GM has had that noise since they bought it and the dealer can't figure it out.

Mine does it too, usually right after startup/putting into gear to drive. I got the feeling it's the pwr steering pump, but I don't know for sure...

Could it be the air suspension pump?

Marauder 307, were you taking off when you felt this and did you feel any vibration coming from the steering wheel????

You did the head under the hood while someone stood on the brake and gassed it test?
Had your head under the hood while someone else started it test?

I have a vac. can that makes strange noises when I first start up.

Merc 406, that won't work because you have to be taking off from a dead stop at a slow rate of acceleration.

Not a suspension noise?

Seems more like noise coming from power steering, and or possible caliper sticking, but it generally happens only once from initial start off.

Yes to the first half of the question...not really to the second part. I feel more feedback coming through the gas pedal; just a momentary vibe and that's it. The car doesn't seem to be tremendously affected but the noise is there; I'm kinda divided as to whether it's a bad noise or just the nature of the beast...

Yes, I am able to feel the same kind of vibration coming through the gas pedal and floor board. Let's keep each other posted on this one and wait and see what turns up.

The ABS system cycles the ABS pump on once per key cycle around 20MPH, I think, give or take. This gives a brief moan sound. Could this be your noise?

Could very well be, but why doesn't this happen every time. Maybe the ABS is the culpit since I never hear it under normal conditions. I will have it checked and will post accordingly.

I had a similar noise the other day by having the key in ACC mode.
ABS cycle sounds most likely. I suppose that is the panther's growl. :baaa:

Thought I'd bring this subject back up...still getting a pronounced "gronk" on initial takeoff after ignition, then it's fine. Have had the Customer Satisfaction Program fix put on it (04B13), and had the front tires road-force balanced at the dealer (mine was smart, had the proper Hunter adapter for MM wheels  ), still get the noise. I wonder...it seems with our steering units, that there's another smaller pump-type mechanism down on the front end gear itself, as opposed to the belt-driven engine pump. Could this be making noise?

Haven't nailed down the source of this noise or where exactly it's coming from.. Seems like the noise is not occurring as often as it use to be so there's no point in hasseling with the dealer (much too nerve racking). Happened the other day but didn't last for more than a second or two.....Will post more if and when I can trace it down.

My 04 is doing that same thing , noise after start up, put it into drive or reverse, move about a cars lenth in either direction, and I feel a vibration in the gas peddal as well hearing a rubbing sound from what seems to be the front left under the hood area. Also I noticed that when I rode the brake after start up it didn't occure, but the second I let off the brake it made the noise. I told the dealer about it, they could not duplicate the noise, or find anything wrong with it. Please help anyone the noise is driving me crazy!!!!!
