Now that the MM headlights are obsolete from Ford. The passenger side is sold out and not many drivers sides are left I was told.
I know the MM headlights are supposed to be smoked or tinted somehow and the CV, GM lights are not but has anyone ever compared the two?
I'd like to see a side by side comparison pic if anyone has a couple of unmounted lights sitting in their garage.
Same question for the tail lights.:)

The MM headlights are not smoked or tinted, rather the surrounds are blacked-out.
The taillights on the MM are smoked/tinted, but I don't know the percentage. CV and GM tailights are not.

I knew that about the tail lights. Have you ever done a side by side comparison? I wonder too how much darker the MM lights are.
As for the headlights when you say surrounds do you mean the chrome reflector inside the housing? Not sure what you mean Baub.
You have one of each, any chance of a pic of each?

If you PM me your number and receive picture messaging I can send you a photo of my Marauder and my P 71 Victoria side-by-side the Marauder has a black ring around the lenses of the headlight in front compared to a clear lens on the Crown Vic
Also the cop cars most of their taillights had an extra third hole for strobe compared to the civilians models that didn't

My car had a set of GM/CV tail lights on it, before I bought a set of Marauder ones. I looked at several different angles (almost took a pic) but the was no noticeable difference, so I didn't bother taking a picture. So, now, I have the GM/CV ones getting the S55 treatment (for switchability)! :D

Mr. Man, Most aftermarket late model Marauder headlights do have the black area inside to assembly. It's my experience the fit is comparable to OEM. Just checked eBay and the first three had the correct look. The only thing you might run into is the seal on the back of the assembly.

The mm headlights have all chrome that is not affecting light output/not being used blacked out. Ive heard the aftermarket headlights having issues with the seals.

As already noted the Marauder headlights are not tinted -AND- ...
Crown Victoria headlights WILL NOT FIT (unless you opt for the Crown Victoria - header panel, grille, bumper fascia, etc., etc., etc..).

I can see the difference in the tail lights in your pics. The tail lights in your pic are also different shapes. I imagine the GM is much newer than the MM.
Thanks for the comparison shots. :)

I have two sets of OEM headlights. One has a hard cap on the back (where you switch the bulb) of them and the other does not. Anyone know about this?

There was a change mid year '02 from what I can gather. Does the other set have a rubber thingamagiggy?

As you saw in the rear light pic..Marauders use CV tailights that are tinted just a touch with the coordinating bottom band/trim painted body color where CVLX are chrome and the CVPI black plastic, not painted. Grand Marquis tailights would fit, but they have no bottom trim piece and the trim piece is not removeable off the Marauder/CV tailight.

The GM tail lights and the Marauder ones are a lot different design. The Marauder and CVic tail lights are more similiar. That is what I was comparing, FWIW.

Not sure, but knowing the US auto industry I'd imagine Ford managed to save a nickel.
I have the rubber dust covers and it is an indication of an early build. What # is your car?

I replaced a tail light on mine with a junk yard replacement from a TN state trooper car when I had one get knocked out on in the middle of a 3000 mile road trip ...luckily it had the black painted trim.
It is virtually impossible to tell the difference in the factory MM tail light and the CV tail light, unless you very bright direct light even on both lights at once.
There is so little difference, I was not willing to even consider spending the money just to get a "correct" light. I also put on a CV rear bumper cover to save $1200 and have a bit more of sleeper that draws less attention from ticket writers.

Thanks for the side by side PIC's 69marquis conv!
Call me crazy, but on a S/B Marauder, I feel that if/when I have to replace the headlamp assemblies I'd go for the standard assemblies since at an angle, they enhance the look w/ our aluminum MM rims. Just my 2¢! :)
