New Nitto Motivos going on tomorrow. Stock size fronts. 255's in back. I got the rears on ebay. Pics don't do them justice. They look very aggressive and tons of tread. I'll let you guys know my impressions if you're interested.

I have had the rears on for over a year and just replaced the fronts with the Motivo's Stock size all around. Much quiter that the BFG. Good tire.

I have them. They have been an excellent tire for a daily. They are wearing awesome too.
They are a little "floppy" compared to the BFG's but still very good.

I have the Motivos in the rear as well 255/55 size. Fronts are the Nitto NT850 in stock size. Seeing as how I cannot find NT850s I will switch to Motivos in the front when the time comes to replace

Tires installed. Look great. The extra size rears makes a pretty big difference. Looks meaner. Fills the wheel well better. Obviously much better traction than my bald BFG's. Very tight steering. Vibrated a little the first time I got to 60 on cold tires, but then they settled in. Got up to 100 with no vibrations after a nice warm up and break in. Corners nicely. All in all they seem to be a really good tire, especially for the money and a 60,000 mile tread wear warranty. Can't wait to try them out at the track......

I was talking to the fellow about to do an eaton swap (they are a necessity on a s/c'd car IMHO).
Although they enhance the look of any marauder. :banana2:
Especially a sexy SB ;)

Drove on the worst road conditions so far with these tires this morning. 4" snow and ice all over the roads. We're low on salt here as we keep getting one storm after another. The Motivos are great. Even with brand new BFG's I would have gotten stuck about 6 times during the trip I had to make. So glad I made the right decision.

I must concur! I just bought 2 255s on Monday, and they grip wonderfully! Had all kinds of snow last night, and the plows must have been on break, because our parking lot wasn't done, and neither was the street coming out of the parking lot. The MM plowed through it with no problem. If I had my Hankooks on still, there's no way I would've even made it out of the parking space!

How do these motivos compare to the 555?
I will be needing rear tires soon ... 20k miles seems to go by fast!

Sorry to hear that. For all the complaining you hear about the BFG's you would think they were the worst tire out there. Yet I have not run a tire yet that comes close to the strength of their sidewall, excellent turn in response and traction.

I just came home from the tire shop that was suggested on the Nitto web site. They told me that the Motivo isn't sold at indy tire shops, but rather big box outfits like Cosco.
The tire shop is calling Nitto to straighten this out.

I guess everybody has differing opinions based on their unique experience but I have to say the Motivo's on our car hook as good or better than the BFG's ever did.
We had the Motivo's on the SB last year at NHIS and they stuck like glue on the road course. The BFG's did well there in the past but they were much easier to break free when accelerating in the uphill tight 180 turn on the back course.
That being said the NHIS road course is very tight and speeds are not the same as you might encounter at say Watkins Glen or Sonoma so perhaps in a long road course with sweeping high speed turns the outcome maybe different.
Seeing as the Marauder spends most of it's time traveling on regular roads and not speedway road courses I am hoping the longer wear and similar if not better grip of the Motivos outweighs the loss, if any in flex feel. JMHO :)

I'm not that concerned about high speed cornering. Most everything around here is laid out in square grids anyway. Plus the MM is not really intended for track days. From the limited fast corners I have taken it handles just fine.
I intended to keep the BFG's since they are original equipment, but I'm really sick of the rears going bald in the center every 10,000 miles. And they are ancient technology.

I have the stock size Motivo's saved in my ebay watch list but was wondering if the BFG KDWS come in wider size than the 245's? I've looked on several tire web sites but never could find anything wider.

Well, by traction I mean cornering. Guess I should be more clear. I've got a stock engine with 3:55 gears so I can't spin any model of tire. I do really enjoy driving the car and the new suspension has transformed it. To those who say it isn't designed for handling, I disagree. If all you have to do is change shocks, springs and sway bars to get good results that proves the design is sound.
I'm not far off from the tire lottery once again. By now the only model I haven't tried is Nitto. Tough decision. I am tempted to go back to the BFG, but sure do hear a lot of good things about the Nitto. Firestones actually aren't all that bad either. I went through a short period where I thought they were a bit slippery, but then a shock adjustment really tightened the car up. That is the great thing about adjustable shocks - you can make them perfect. Also the pitfall, it is easy to get it wrong as well.
I have always really noticed sidewall rigidity, and have absolutely hated "floppy" tires and the lack of quick response they cause. Maybe someone at the Santa Cruz Marauder meet next weekend will have a set I can observe.

I have almost 10k miles on a set of Motivos but they are 255/45-18's front & rear.
They corner better than anything I've had on the car to date - for over 145k miles since I got the car July 2, 2002. There have been 3 sets of oem BFGs, then I switched to the 255/45s front/rear in '08 for another 3 sets - two Nitto & I Cooper. The Coopers were good, the Nittos better. The Motivos are better than oem in the snow two!
