i've been looking for a way to get good exhaust flow but not be obnoxiously loud. Babbage PM'd me and recommended I go with a muffled x-pipe and get the long body mufflers. Well I finally bit the bullet and got the parts.

I just read the title of your thread and my first thought was....: "WHY?"
BTW: I've got a straight 'X' pipe and 18" Magnaflows......My Marauder sounds sweet, and it's not too loud.

Am I reading this right that you plan on using the dual in/out muffler as your "x-pipe" and then out thru the other mufflers in the picture?

the "dual in/out muffler" is an x-pipe that is perforated and will be a third muffler on my car.

Sounds interesting. Won't the muffler sit a lot closer to the ground than a regular xpipe reducing your ground clearance?

I would put the Magnaflow mufflers in first and see what it sounds like and then add the other X-Gismo if you want it quieter!!;)
Mine sounds great with Magnaflow 18's even after 9 years!!:bows:

Cool, I hope you like this setup! Mine is quiet, but I used the Dynomax Superturbo mufflers 25" long which are actually Quieter than the Magnaflows.
That magnaflow should have the Tru-X core. You can get a 2 in 2 out muffler but I think the Muffled X works great on the MM.

Mine in this pic sits higher than the trans pan. Kept same exact factory bolt up location, so later on when I bolted on my SW headers they fit perfectly.

Post up after you get installed, definitely get mandrel stainless if you can!
2.5" Crush bent = 2.25" Mandrel bent
What size pipes are those?

i hope not too much... Babbage says his trans pan sits lower

good to know. i hope mine just has a slight slight sliiiiight rumble only while accelerating. my mustang makes enough noise if i have the urge to get loud.

thanks

unfortunatly no exhuast shops with mandrel benders but one said they could cut and weld using mandrel bent pipes.
they're the 2.5" versions... planning on eaton swap once the mustang is done

That will work very well, that's your shop! Post up some pics when it's done.

Very interesting muffled X-pipe, I like the idea. Obviously there are those here who like noise, but I am all for keeping it as quiet as possible. Besides, engine modifications down the road will add noise regardless of what you do to the exhaust, so best (again, IMHO) to do the best you can to quiet it down.
You may want to consider just buying Stainless Works axle loops, tailpipes and some mandrel bends to weld together to complete the system. No way the labor of a local shop cutting and welding mandrel bends is going to come out cheaper or better than SW.

I have always loved the sound of a Mustang with Flowmasters. For whatever reason, I have never heard a MM sound like a Mustang. Length of exhaust maybe? Any ideas

I'm taking the car in tomorrow morning to get the exhaust all made up. Unfortunately im not getting mandrel bent pipes... no place in Oklahoma has a mandrel bender and it would be too danged expensive for the little gain i'd get for someone to cut up and weld mandrel bends.
here's what she sounds like now with all stock exhaust minus the rear cats

Look forward to hearing yours when it's done . I've gotta finish and upload a bunch of GoPro's I found when cleaning my desktop PC up last night... All mounted by rear wheel, most you just hear supercharger still and I have no cats, magnaflow big cans, and stock tips. Love the sound.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk so I may sound retarded.

alright, got the exhaust done by Benders in south OKC. they did great work. The sound is deep and mellow. Cruising on the freeway is so quiet and smooth, i love it. I'm sure once i get around to getting the SW long tubes on she'll get a little louder.

Wow that is gorgeous. Stainless mandrel, I have the same mid pipe setup. Isn't the muffled X sexy? It sounds nice and smooth - no annoying crackle pop snap! The X makes more tq and hp too. You should feel it in the midrange for sure. It will only get a little bit louder with headers.
I just redid mine with Borla Pro XS and it sounds very similar!
Good job for sure.:banana2:
