Just wanting to know if anyone here has ever owned a 1963-1964 Ford Galaxie or an 1984 GMC Caballero. I had two 64's, one a two door hardtop 390 four speed car, the othe was a 289 four door hard top. My first car (i still have) was a Caballero....they only produced 2751 for 84.

406 Memories...

Years ago I had a 1963 Mercury Montery Marauder (406 Flags on front fenders) with the Breezeway roll-down rear window. It had a 406 with 3 2V carbs. Bought it for $300 from an older friend of my dad's with 33,000 miles on it. It had set for a couple of years in basement storage. Dad didn't know about the monster engine until the deal was already done. It even had A/C!

A little work brought the black paint to a beautiful shine and the old oil seals
fattened up after a couple of oil changes; after that no leaks. The only repair needed was a salvage yard power steering pump from a 1965 Lincoln and I was good to go.

This was one hell of a wild and unique car in an era when Mustangs, Camaros. Chevelles, and Chargers were the in-thing. My black monster sedan was every bit as fast and usually faster! I used to shoot bottle rockets out the back window while going down the road! Drove it like the devil for a year and a half and three sets of tires.

As a teen, I could not afford the gas or shipping to bring it to California, when we moved out west, so I sold it. Still wish I had that car! I do remember being able to see the gas gauge go down when holding it at WOT for a nice long run, but gas was in the 30 cent range back then, for premium!

It was sure fun blowing the doors off the 'cool' cars while sitting on a 'sofa' in air conditioned comfort. The big trunk held a huge cooler full of beer too!

Best Regards,

David

David, it wasn't a Marauder with that kinda roof. It more than likely was a 390 with the dealer installed 3x2 as only a halfa hand full of 406's came out in Mercury form with only 1 Marauder 406 known to exist. None had A/C, power brakes or power steering.

This car was definately the 405 HP 406.

The old guy who owned it was a bit eccentric and ordered it that way.

It had the 'breezeway' roofline, 4-doors, and the Marauder engine.

It was technically a Montery with the 'Custom' trim level
and the correct 406 'Flags' on the front fenders.

I'll try to dig up some pictures at some point in the future.

It is true that most Mercs had 390's in them with either 1 2V or 4V.

David

I'll get some pictures for you guys of my Caballero. Oh, and I did have a 63 Galaxie four door sedan, 352 2 barrel, viking blue, looked like the Galaxie Steve McQueen drove in the movie The Getaway.

My first new car was a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 tudor hardtop. 390 Cuin, three on the tree, black with red and white interior. My second new car was a 1967 Galaxie 500XL tudor hardtop. 428 Cuin, four on the floor, black with red interior. What a sweet set of wheels. I have to admit that my 03 black beauty seems to be just as much or even more fun!

My first car was a new 1961 Ford Galaxie (see details below). It was black with red interior with an aftermarket three speed Hurst speed shifter and OEM overdrive. It got 15 mpg at highway speeds. It was fast but not anywhere close to my S/C MM.

I never drove another high performance car again until 2003.

I had chosen marriage and a family. I got a high from my car but not even close to what my wife did for me. She's no different today!

Now my children have grown up and so I decided to relive my past. My S/C MM is all that I could ever dream of and more. Even after one year I still love the interior with the red lighted needles on the gauges. Great looks.

Just wanting to know if anyone here has ever owned a 1963-1964 Ford Galaxie or an 1984 GMC Caballero.

Never owned one; but I learned how to drive on my brother-in-law's 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 while on a visit to Goldsboro, NC. It was red on a red interior, 2-door HT. I believe it had the 390 engine. Time was 1965, I was 15. My how time flies.

It's too bad that Ford couldn't bring back the Galaxie.....all alluminum 427, six speed, 4.10s, in a crown vic. That would have been nice. I need to work for Ford. We would always have fast sedans.

I have a 1964 Galaxy convert. It's a 500XL clone, turquoise with black bucket seats, white top. 352/250hp with 3:50 gears and automatic. I also have a factory a/c unit sitting on the floor in my garage taken from a 1964 Galaxy sedan, and an NOS set of 1964 rear bumper guards.

Great cruiser; owned it since 1967, but the time may have come to sell it. Like parting with a family member.

Can't keep all the cars that I have and give them the TLC they deserve, so either the 58 TBird or Galaxy must go, and, since I already have one convert (2003 TBird), the Galaxy looks like the one to sell.

When I got married nearly 20 years ago, my daily driver was a '68 XL GT convertible. Royal maroon, 390 4 barrell, automatic. I still have it - needs to be restored.

My brother still has his first car: a '64 XL 2 door, 352 4 barrell, automatic, buckets, console, etc. Bought in 1975 for $1000. It's pagoda green or blue with matching interior. Completely restored - it makes me jealous.

One of the reasons I love the Marauder is that it reminds me of all the old Galaxies, LTDs, XLs, and big Mercs that I grew up with!

Almost had a 64 Galaxy convert. 352 (which is a big block or more correctly a Y block.) It belonged to my uncle, he was selling it. I saved the 250 he wanted, and he said, nay, the tranny's blown, you don't want it. It was a ploy to see if I could save money, he and my mom cooked up, worked good, learned the value of a buck etc. My buddy had a Cabellero (I think, it was a GMC elCamino). His had the "Diablo" pkg, 350 eng. big devil decal on the hood and big letters on bottom that said DIABLO. We used to call it a DIL#O, and he finally tore the decals off. It ran okay, and we spent a lot of crazy times in it. It did good burnouts too!

My first car was a 63 Galaxie 500 4 door, 427 ci. Had some good times in that car. I had a lot of mussel car owners scratching their head. They would ask me what was in it, I'd tell them it was a 352 even show them the 352 cast in the block, My sister in law stole it and run off to Flordia in it, never saw it again.

The only Cabellaro I know of was a Buick Stationwagon.
