Just wondering, when I got the car back from the paint shop, there must have been some clear coat overspray on the wheels. I managed to buff most of it off with some Meguairs Polish. But, what kind of wax would do ya'll use that works good on the wheels? Same as the car?

Yep, treat your wheel clearcoat just as you would the car paint.

I hand wash, clay bar, polish and wax, just as I do with the paint.

I just wash and clean them up ... then use Turtle Wax ICE polish on them.

Use a sealant or better yet a coating. Lasts much longer than wax. Clean up with soap and water.

I put on three coats of carnuba wax...... makes removing brake dust alot more easy with just a dry towel at any moment.

I am experimenting with detainers pride wheel coating.
Mainly on my wife's F150
All the neighborhood critters seem to,think her wheels are porta potties
Chrome wheels and animal urine are a bad mix.
It's been on about 60 days now. Brake dust and P rinsing off with a water hose.

Carnauba and wheels? Carnauba melts in heat. It will essentially run off in a short amount of time. Save it for additional "Pop" at shows.

I use Zymol, for the simple fact that I've had it for a while (it's old) and still works well for wheels. Doesn't hold up for much of anything though. When it runs out i'm not sure what i'll use then.

I have never really had a brake dust problem on the MM fronts or rears. The first set lasted 70K miles. Almost 25K on the 2nd set so far.

Brake dust isn't a big problem for me since the car gets washed a lot! :P

Most of the time I apply OptiCoat. Lasts for at least a year, usually much longer, on wheels IME and they clean up *very* easily. I used to layer on whatever sealant or wax I used on the car (usually FK1000P), but the OptiCoat works a lot better for me.

I will admit...since I have installed the Hawk pads brake dust has been kept to a minimum. It's kinda hard to tell right now how much I have on my wheels due to the black plastidip for winter. But yes, treat your wheel clearcoat as your car's clear coat. Keep a separate applicator pad for the wheels of course. I personally use mothers wax.

Can you use Mothers aluminum polish on these or would it strip the clear coat?

Gotcha, sorry for asking a stupid question.

So what is the best way to clean oxidation and grime off the wheels?

There should be no oxidation on the outside of the wheels.

See post #2.
