OK ... I have a tranny leak on an otherwise functioning tranny. There is a transmission shop in town that is widely trusted by local shops. Or I could take it to the stealership. I just don't have time to chase this anymore (and it's my daily). Thoughts? I know there are some things that people will only allow the dealer to touch .... Didn't know if transmission is one of them. Honestly, I think is just as gasket/seal.

Tough call. The dealer is not always the "best" place for service. Many times they're barely adequate, but almost always the most expensive.

Do you have any experience with either shop? I've found 3 small independents in my area that are almost literally "holes in the wall", but I got a good vibe from the owners and they have all done excellent work for a fair price.

If the shop is trusted, carries a good reputation, does good work and stands behind it, I would go with the shop. I have the same scenario here, the shop I use runs circles around any dealer, and will actually install what parts you need or want (read:upgrades), not just OE stuff.

See if you can find out which transmission shop handled taxi and cop cars in your area. They will be the most practiced with the 4R70W.
