Greetings,

I have an 2003 Mercury Marauder with the Cylinder #8 misfire issue. I originally thought it was an quick easy fix with simply replacing ignition coil & plug. Wrong! Using the Ford IDS computer, the relative compression read Cyl 8 22% & cyl 7 10%. Seeking to either sell the vehicle and or seek assistance on repair. My cost on replacing head would be $1350, but may be best just removing and rebuilding. Any thoughts, suggestions greatly appreciated.

Have you done an actual compression and leak down test on the car?

Makes sense to do both.

If you would like to sell the car broken, please let me know.
Sounds like the valve seats have dropped in those cylinders.

I work at Ford Dealer, so I receive a bit of a discount on labor and 10% over cost on parts. I would be looking to get $5k for car as is. Let me know.

If it is indeed the valve seats, a broken MM like that would fetch 3000-3500.
Whats the mileage

At 110K your options are fix it and keep moving, or if you sell it broken you will certainly take a loss on it

Yeah, I noticed that about 10 minutes after I posted the question when I came across your for sale ad....lol.

How long have you had the car? Noticed you just joined up last month. It would be great if you could keep her. If you haven't already, please post up your vehicle info in the thread we have on here:

Been up here on the forum for a while now lowkey. Step bro owned for about 6 months and deployed, passed car down to me. I love it, but my daily commute from Garner to Wake Forest has been a hit on gas lol.

You need a rear head cooling mod, there is a dead end for coolant on 7 & 8 cyls. This is what hurt your heads. If you fix your heads get the cooling mod, so those cyls don't over heat and fail you again.

Thanks, greatly appreciate the info. If I don't sell soon, I will be sending vehicle in the shop for repair.

If you work at a Ford store, I would definitely just have them fix it for you (with the cooling mod) at your discounted rates.

Just Remove & Rebuild.

The quoted number of hours seems low for the the rebuild part.
