3.73 is a waste of your cash.

4.10 wakes the car up (especially with a Lidio or Martyo tune) and you only lose 1 to 2 mpg. You won't even notice the difference in fuel cost for the exchange of so many more smiles per mile!!! :burnout:

This question gets asked at least once a month. Use google to search for "mercury marauder what gears should i use". You'll see all the discussions which will all boil down to installing 4.10's, no one ever said they didn't like the 4.10 and went back to 3.55's. There are one or two that have even gone to 4.30's and 4.56's.

Seems like once a week. :shake:

Can we make a common mod sticky with tune, intake, and gear FAQs and slap it under the Marauderville post on the home screen

Consensus is that sustained 80+ mph with 4.10s is a little much. For example, I'm not sure I'd want to drive from California to NY at 80 mph with my 4.10s. 70-75 is fine, but when spinning 2800 rpm with delta 40s, it gets a little numbing.

I drive mine around town and road trips of 100 miles or less. 4.10s are perfect for that.

3.73s are an option, but make sense if there's a power adder in the mix to shove the car along. NA cars benefit from the extra zip 4.10s provide.

Then there's the radical 4.30 crowd...

Then there would be zero discussion, MM.net would dwindle, and there would be way too much bandwith available for Facebook and Pinterest. Hell would open the gates and we would all die trial by fire.

4.10 should've been a stock gear. It's well loved by the car in both city ms highway commutes. Wana actually step it up go 4.30.
But 4.10 will suit you just fine

So it's not the gears it's your exhaust.

I have 4.10's and run all day long at 80 with no problems.

My car ran 11.93 on my wasted cash 3:73s. Different strokes....

Agree. I ran my MM on 4:30s for 50k miles & enjoyed every minute.

The comment refers to the difference between 3.55 & 3.73 is so small it's not worth spending $ for the change - especially if NA.

That your car ran that great on 3.73 is awesome, it just didn't do it stock. (referencing OP question).

Absolutely true. The exhaust was too aggressive and it vibrated. The 4.10s put the worst drone in the 2800 rpm zone, however. If I had 3.55s the highway rpms would drop and I wouldn't have suffered as bad. Performance wouldn't be where it is, either.

Aggressive exhaust plus gears = bad for my situation.

Corrected exhaust + gears = happy miles. Granted I still think it's still a little high strung, but I do like it. If we had a 5-speed, then hell yes.

Why can't SCT be dynoed?

IMHO stick with SCT. Get one with a tune from Martyo or Lidio.

Diablo is dated tech. SCT is the gold standard of ass kicking.

A tune is what you want --- from a professional that knows what they are doing --- a tune that is pre-loaded --- and includes an optional gear ratio selector, and speedometer correction. It will also store the OEM tune.
