Just got my car back yesterday after 2 months in the body shop. Can't wait to put on my underdrives. Pulled out the fan to get at the harmonic balancer bolt, no problem. Can't get the d**n bolt loose. I was able to stick a wrench on one of the torque convertor nuts to lock it down. Still couldn't break the bolt loose with an impact at 100psi. Any tips???? Am I using the right method to keep the crank from turning? Is my impact a piece of crap?? Wish I had a breaker bar.

Thanks,
brian

My 100 psi won't work either just used old fashoned muscle power it will come, 18mm socket and a breaker bar, don't forget to remove the washer before you put the puller on.

Drop a little penetrating oil on the nut, wait a few minutes, and apply some muscle. The nut will come off.

A few scented candles and some soft music and you have the makings of a real romantic evening....

Penetrating oil indeed....

Steve: It obviously worked for you at least once. I met your son!

Btw: How's the construction going?

heh... my mind's in the gutter... I'm catching a plane to North Carolina in 30 minutes, I'll be away from home for a week. Unfortunately, unlike the last trips, I can't sit here and get liquored up while net surfing since I gotta work tonight....

Interesting day... packing, preparing for work, band practice with a band I'm playing with for a charity gig in May, dropped by the construction site, and here I am after the SLLOOOWWEST taxi ride in the universe... and Delta is delayed.

The house... I *almost* have a second floor... here is the latest (before the second floor was being assembled):

Best of all, my garage:

Should be enough room for 3 Trans Ams, maybe even a Marauder if my lift idea works out (like the one discussed a few weeks ago, with one car above another).

Hmmm.....interesting......I like threads like this. Easy question, easy answer. It gives us room to go off-topic. Cool......

I just saw a real nice stacking lift that was pretty reasonably priced. Let me know if you are interested and I will PM you the details.

Have a safe trip!

Actually, there is some truth to it... I realized there was a tremendous therapeutic value to lounging around the garage on different little car projects. While dating some psycho b*tch in the early 90s, there was nothing more soul-calming than spending a day in the garage with the GTA, usually polishing it up for some car show I'd be doing that weekend (some relationships suck because a guy spends too much car time, my car time grew out of a relationship that sucked... who'd have thought? )

As a single guy, the therapeutic exercise extended to long cruises anywhere there was paved road, preferably with T-tops removed. With my family situation, I actually prefer being at home now, so weekend rejuvenation projects on the '78 were what really allowed me to disconnect from work stress (although 2003 was so messed up I didn't even see the '78, much less work on it). Little projects like valve cover cleanup and painting, etc...

Here's one of my experiments (valve cover gasket replacement and cover painting):

The rest of the block will have to wait...

Marty, I'd appreciate any lift-related info (and I was intending on contacting you anyway, as per Todd's recommendation). Right now, I have two companies noted (and I wish I could tell you which ones, but after having worked all night and slept 6 hours in the last 32, all I remember is Revolution lifts and the other is the one in that pic in the MM.net gallery).

Hey Steve, that "T/A 6.6" scoop came out great. I hear what you're saying about the need for having a hobby. I'm single, and I know all about that. In a certain sense, it really doesn't matter if you're single or married. You need time to spend on a hobby. I guess the challenging thing for most married guys who do make time for their hobbies, is NOT to allow the hobby in question to consume so much time that it becomes a selfish thing and takes away from their time spent w/their family like you've implied.

it has to be in moderation, and because certain hobbies can be addictive, i guess ya gotta exercise some self-control. But I do think that weather you're married or single, you need to have a hobby. Obviously single guys will have more time to devote to hobbies if they so choose. But it's a good outlet for any guy.

The intention with this '78 T/A thing is that it not take away from the family time, but rather integrate itself with my family time. I am looking forward to spending more garage time with my son this year working on the cars...

At 2.5 years old, he just recently 'helped' me hook up my battery charger to my GTA's battery (holding multimeter, battery terminal ratchet tool, etc.). The GTA was stored kind of dusty and dirty, and I was surprised at how little stress I felt as I'd occasionally see him rub against the car as he walked here and there. LOL! Hope the wax held up!

Last spring I swapped out the O2 sensor in my GTA. At 1.5 years of age, my son was at the side of the car, crouching to see what I was doing, and saying:
"wha doing?" (what are you doing)
and
"Pappa, careful!"

Can't wait to be home again...

Billy: I already told you -- you have to choose. It's either gonna be kids or a GT. You simply can't have 'em both!!

Kelly, are we refering to Steeda Under Drive? If so, its been so long ago I don't know what washer you are referring to. I hope I didn't screw up so please tell me exactly where and what you do with this washer.

Thanks,

Donald

When you remove the bolt out of the harmonic balancer pullie , just behind the bolt is a washer that has to come out as well so when the puller is used it won't rest on the washer, when you install the new balancer use the temp bolt to start the pullie on then replace with the washer and the original bolt.
