View Full Version : Dealer Offered me.......

Pat

This morning while driving to the store a used car dealer, Caspiana Motors, pulled up next to me and indicated for me to roll down my window. I did, he said "I sure like your car, want to sell it"? I said "make me an offer". He said "anything you want, I like that car".

I said "I'll think about it". He said "come by the lot anytime".

So, I'm thinking, KBB in "good condition", 116K miles and my S/C, Nitrous and other stuff that 14K would be a fair price.

What is the membership's wisdom?

Regards,

Pat

PS, I would get another MM (04) with similar mods but lot less mileage.
Black if possible.

Of course, ask for more than $14K if that's what you want to get.

Good luck!

This is just my two cents you might be able to make more money selling the supercharger separate and then going to the dealership with just the Marauder and see what you can get for maybe Kelly bluebook value 8-11k if he's getting the car for him self .

Or remove the S/C and return to stock and use the S/C on the next marauder.

Just a thought.

ps: black is the worst color to keep clean:)

I'd take him at his word for "anything you want". Start at $20K (higher if you think you can get away with it). The car alone should be $14-16K. Add additionals for the S/C and your other mods. If he wants it bad enough, he won't struggle too hard at $20K ... it ain't stock. If he winces some, you can come down gradually. You need to find out how much he likes it and how much he wants it. He approached you, so right now you have the advantage.

If you're serious about selling, I'd try to sell it here and know it's going to good hands instead of a dealer - who knows where it'll go.

He is full of it.. you know he just wants to flip it.. curious to see if he is willing to come anywhere near a number you would except..

I'd try to sell it for enough to buy 2 MM's.

Fixed it!!!! :P:D

You know your car. If there are no hidden problems why chance getting another car.

It's just a ploy to get you on the lot to 'ugrade' to a newer car. He will not give anything close to even what it's worth bone stock...my opinion...a couple of dealers tried that with my 79 Mark V back in the day when I was shopping thinking they could get it for a steal...

But if price is right and you want a different build setup it could work out

I think its a scam, tell him 20k and see if he's a man of his word.

I wouldn't sell mine for $20,000, and mine is N/A.
Where would I find another clean, low mile Marauder?
$25,000....NOPE!
$30,000....getting warmer!

If someone offered me $50,000, I might bite.

No amount of money or trade considered. Ever.

I would only sell for an emergency medical expense.

Pat, keep your car.

Mines been for sale since '04... There is always a right price!

$20,000 is disingenuous... but I agree that it is a car dealers JOB to "steal the trade." If you need 14... ask forr 14750 and hold firm.

I think he was hoping for a $5,000 grand marque type buy and has / had no idea what the heck he as talking about.

We are all interested to hear though. ALSO I agree to sell the extra parts seperate--he didn't know they were there.

Thanks men for your input. It confirms what I think and feel, the Marauder is just too much a part of my life. I'm going to keep it and keep it serviceable.

I hope to see some of you in Louisville.

Thanks,

Can you use the acronym POV if it doesn't pertain to a movie purchased at a hotel?...

Just a thought, we seem to "devalue" our own cars. As we all know these were a limited build. 12 years out there are not that many left and even fewer are retained by original owners. Anybody have a head count on original owners on here? Less than 100? If the MM ever has a chance to become a sought after collectable we as a community of enthusiasts need to keep the prices up. We only hurt ourselves by low balling our own cars. I realize it may never happen, but we need to stop shooting ourselves in our own feet. :twocents:

Oh, and, keep the car Pat. You'd be kicking yourself in a month.

+1 I've always said this, I don't know why some people are quick to de-value. If these cars weren't sought after there wouldn't be so many "finally a marauder owner" and "looking for the perfect MM" and "looking to trade for a Marauder" threads which consistently pop up.

Might this have something to do with just wanting a quick sale and be done with it to move on to something else...When I bought mine shortly after I saw adds here for SC'd cars with same or slightly higher miles for about the same price...And even the cars I look at on line ever so often are mostly stock cars for thousands more than somebody is selling for here. And you know they are better taken care of here than from the stealerships...Just from MM.net alone we could nearly price fix them and keep the market high if in fact there are only 5-8000 prime cars left...

whitey
02-21-2014, 10:49 PM
The problem is that we dont have the market share, sure, mm.net is a great place with great owners, but in reality, if there are 5000 mm left, there's only maybe, and i stress maybe, 150 active members here. That comes out to 3%....the rest of the world is beating us by a long shot. Just my $. 02.

My .02 on SC cars is, unless I know the owner and the car, NO WAY. Its probably been beat and raced too much for me to spend my limited funds just to spend more to rebuild it. Now the same could be true for NA car. There are still some cream puffs out there. I know of one in upstate NY with low miles, owned by an older gentleman. He has no intentions of ever parting with it. Collector.

Very true statement and I couldn't agree more. But sometimes situations change as well. Look at mine, I have replaced all drivetrain, suspension, brakes, exhaust, tires, anything that spins, has a bearing, or was simply dirty and anything that remotely could wear out in the next few years just last year alone and pretty much driven like a grandma since and kept the mileage to a bare minimum. So essentially a brand new car ready to concur the world for years to come. Pretty much none of it needed but the money was here for once, so I made the time.
