Found small puddle of trans fluid under car after long period of non-use. Oil change place identified leak location. Took to Ford to have a look/repair. Told me trans guy is backed up 2 days. Went to a Goodyear place to take a look. They put it on the lift and I can see what was leaking but they did not want to touch it. It is like I have the plague.

The item leaking is a rectangular piece of nylon held on by 1 bolt towards the read end of it. It is on the drivers side of the trans up about 6 inches from the bottom of the trans about 8 inches in front of where the drive shaft enters the unit. I have scoured the service manual diagrams but can't find it.

Any idea what it is and is it a big deal to fix?

Not sure what it is, but try tightening it. Might be a plug for where the speedometer cable use to mount. What color is it?

Common.
there is an o-ring on it that went bad.
Either replace the O-ring or clean it real good and coat it with silicone.

Very simple job.

Took it to a trans shop I have used before. 20 mins in and out. Did not bother writing up a ticket. Will be using the car for the next week or so. Need a period of inactivity after that to see if the leak is fixed.
