I have never used my valet key, but I found it laying around the other day so I figured I would give it a try. It fits the ignition and turns the ON switch on. Dash lights come on, but it won't turn the engine over.
What's up with that?

Might need to be programmed to the PATS. I'll have to try mine........

Can the dealer or a key shop that has this capability just use one of the regular keys and program the valet key to match? Or do they have to somehow go through the car's computer, or what?

You program it just as any other key, you will need 2 working keys to program it to the car.

All the valet key does is open the door and start the car, it won't open the trunk or the glove box if locked.

Yep.

My valet key has been in my safe since I bought the car 9+ years ago. lol

I think I'll take it to a local key shop that says they sell and program keys without having to go to the dealer. Probably faster that way, if they can really do it.

As long as you have TWO programmed keys already you can program the Valet key or any new additional keys yourself providing the new keys have been cut already.

If you only have ONE programmed key then you will have to go to the dealer or local key locksmith/shop and have them program it. Ask if they CLONE or CREATE a new RF on duplicate keys. A good shop with have an IDS scan tool to hook up to the car computer and create a new RF on any key that gets programmed.

Been good, Jim. I need to get back more often and reacquaint myself with the old timers like myself.
Now about that rumor of Mercury coming back and making a 2015 Marauder...:banana2:

Well, welcome back---yes , some of us oldies are still around. Sure miss the old Texas gangs enthusiasm. I'm still enjoying running around with other groups since there is no real interest in the Texas owners to do things together. Hope you have a great summer. Keep in touch. Maury

Mine was put somewhere under the dash for the remote start.

Never saw it since the remote was installed before I picked the car up:)

In the 11 years I have owned my car, I have probably had it valet parked 2 or 3 times. That only happens if I go someplace and don't find out until I get there that there is no self parking within a mile, and the only option is to valet park or leave. Some places I have just left, but if it's a certain event that I need to be at, I have had to give in, cursing and screaming all the way.

Generally speaking, that is a rule I have myself Marauderjack, but with Irene and Sandy, I was forced to secure the Marauder on high ground, and I'm glad I did I must say! :)

Never let any car jockey drive my MM.

Pulled into a hotel in Charlotte, N.C. Jockey looked at the MM, looked at me and said "I guess you'll be parking that yourself?" "Of course", I said.
