I was thinking of changing my headers soon.. but I want some opinions cuz I see some ppl haves kooks headers n than I see some ppl with cobra headers .
Which ones would be better to increase hp? And or better for a daily driven mm? And wen I change the headers is there anything else I should change wen doing so??

My understanding of it all is like this stainless works if you want full length long tubes, kooks are more of a mid length design. The vehicle should be tuned after the installation of either. Locking header bolts from either stage 8 or ARP should be considered as well. If by cobra headers you are talking about the stock cobra manifolds that some people are running, I would personally pass on those since they are almost identical to the Marauder ones.
Hope this helps.

^^^WHAT HE SAID^^^
I would also get a different mid pipe, 2.5 or 3".
Ceramic coating the headers is also a popular option.

I can offer you pretty good pricing on the Stainless Works headers if you want to go the long tube route.
I would not bother with the cobra shorty headers. They are not the best option.

I have the complete long tube Stainless Works system on my '04 Silver Birch. I can't say that the horsepower increased much but the torque certainly did.
There is a great software program by "Performance Trends" that allows you to do a "what[[B]/B] if" before spending money for parts you can't return. I use the program for all of my rebuilds and mods before I order parts. The software has always been within 5% of the actually dyno data.

Do you have a tune or get a re-tune adjustment after installing the header system?

The headers required an SCT re-tune, which I had done on a dyno.

A dyno tune can yield some more power.

Something I have yet to do since my complete S.W. System. Really curious where I'd be if I upped the pulley back to 3.2 and leave the +4 lower (way too much boost right now creating nothing but heat..) plus with the cams?
Make that I need to know. Must schedule appointment... Just been lazy.

A true long tube design will yield the best results.Another benefit is the upgrade to 304 stainless steel to rid yourself of rusty stock manifolds. We offer an 1-5/8" primary which is the perfect compliment to the OHC design for such a heavy car.
Part Number MAUCAT (http://www.stainlessworks.net/2003-2004-mercury-marauder-headers-and-lead-pipes-w-cats.html)

How well to the Stainless Works headers really fit?
Do they clear all components, without any mods, such as shimming a motor mount? Do they clear the steering shaft?
Were there any changes made to them since the original design, so that the current model fits better than a prior?
Enquiring minds want to know!

We have found that the fitment on the headers is very good.
Then again, we install car parts for a living so your results may vary.

That's very nice! But, Do they clear all components, without any mods, such as shimming a motor mount? Do they clear the steering shaft?
I only ask because I understand there have been "problems" in said areas.

This^ I installed a couple sets last year and yes, they cleared everything. As for the X pipe and trying to keep centered perfectly, tail pipe fitment, and hanger design, not so much. But with enough "adjusting" with my screw jacks and my deadblow, it also seams to clear all now.

Also, I am more of a fan of OEM gaskets, and new factory studs and lock nuts.

Yeah, I'd hate to get a set with the ceramic coating only to have that damaged because they needed some "adjustments" like with a hammer.
But I'm really just concerned about it on my (tighter) '01, I went ahead and ordered them for my '08 with the coating after both Chris and Paul at Stainless works assured me there'd be no problems (haven't installed them yet though).

Ha! You wanna see some REAL massaging...? Look what I went thru on my last set of coated headers! Keep in mind I was simply taking one for the team to see if they fit because I had a little extra cash and time. You know, the two things we never get.. Meh, I still used them for a year and half or so, they served their use..

It doesn't say if he sells the exhaust only that the headers fit good and he with the aid of a hammer got the exhaust got a exhaust system to fit.

You can buy the exhaust without the headers. Is that what you are asking?

No sir maybe I am being unclear,I am wondering if he has a exhaust kit also that will bolt up to those headers in the pic,I would be interested in a price on a headers and exhaust kit complete.
Thanks

Yes, Stainless Works does produce a catback exhaust system as well as headers for these cars.

They fit extremely well and yes we made a slight design change a few years ago maybe like a 1/16" adjustment mainly for ease of install and a bit of extra clearance. Keep in mind on these cars motor mounts, trans mounts and body mounts need to be in great ship for best overall fit, doesn't take much to have worn mounts, this will affect fitment with any long tube header setup .

Thanks for your response, can the maurader be run without the cats or does one have to run sims and tune for it.

We do have the option to delete the converters with our "off-road" option when using our long tube designs. Really best thing is to tune the vehicle, it will be a major difference over stock especially with the tranny shift points and throttle response. Fuel injected cars run better with converters, I never understand why people delete them.

Tech Note
We get this call on a regular basis so now is a good time to post this info.
If you are currently using our SW factory connect header MAUCAT or MAUHDROR then you can easily add our exhaust by purchasing one of our Performance connect setups pn MAUEX-CAT or MAUEX. Simply remove the 2 bolt flange lead pipes and bolt the exhaust up to converter or converter delete pipe from the headers. The rear 02 bungs will be in the lead pipes in front of the x-pipe so all will hook up the same.
See pictures below. You will end with a two extra pipes but the addition of the catback will help make more power and better sound.
