View Full Version : Buying back my totaled Marauder?

I am strongly considering buying back my totaled Marauder at auction. I would take the seats for sure and a few other things. I am not doing this to make money, but what are some guesses as to how much one can recover from engine, transmission, and interior (minus seats) if I part the car out? Damage is axles, tires, and front end.

I'm thinking Hawaii makes it a different market. So I would be no help.

Good point. I will be transporting it to the Northwest.

Ouch! Cuts deeply into profit margin on a parts car.

Exactly! So you can see I am not doing this to make money, but would like to get an idea of how much I want to stick my neck out.

If you got the car to the NW. I would be interested in anything you did not want.
Motor and tranny should be wirth 2 grand maybe more. Rear bumper any good?

That's good to know! Rear bumper is good.

I also think I would enjoy disassembling the car. I think I'll learn a lot in the process.

The Military transported my car to & from Hi. In the 80's and I think it was about $4,500 each way. I think you would be better off letting the insurance Co. Deal with it.

Now days transporting a car in running condition is more like $1,200. I am getting quotes on transporting a non operable vehicle.

It won't be worth it. Nothing special about the trans or engine.

I did it last year and still have parts left. I found out that the people that really wanted the parts didn't mine paying the asking + shipping prices but also found out some others wanted to jerk me around on the already low asking price and acted if I set the amount it would cost to ship items, especially the rear bumper cover which ran into the 100's depending on where it was going. So basically I just decided to keep what I have left and maybe find a MM that has seen better days and use parts as necessary to fix it up unless I run across someone that needs something I have.

Thanks guys. I can easily see myself keeping parts just in case. I realize at some point this is not worth the trouble. What I have to figure out is what point that is. Shipping cost is the killer for sure.

I think you can do a buyback from the insurance company for a lot less than it would be to try and get in a salvage auction. I think most of the time you get it back for about 20-25% of what they settled out for.

Hey guys! I bought my Marauder back at the auction earlier today. I now own two Marauders, my newly purchased SB and my old (wrecked) black. As it turns out, it was better to buy the car back at auction than it was to buy from the insurance company.

Shipping to the NW will cost me $1,500, but I am still happy with my decision. I get to have my seats back, and a few other things.

What did it cost you at auction?

I wasn't going to share that info, but given the bold question... Here is the unsatisfactory answer. Bid was $1,000. Fees and taxes were $444 (Most spectators will think I paid too much. Others looking for parts may disagree).

Now a bold question for you. I realize some things may not sell, but how much do you think a person may be able to sell each one of these items for:

Seats from SB (I am keeping the ones from the black)
Rear bumper
Steering wheel
Spare full size tire & rear polished tire
OEM Radio
4.10 Gears
Tunner with tune
Gauge cluster
Console gauge unit
Upper center console
Airbags
Fog lights
Rear lights
PCM (malfunctioning)
Air intake
Door panels
Dot matrix
Center caps
Exhaust tips
Floor mats
Scrap for the shell

IF YOU ARE NOT GOING WITH BODY SHOP PRICES ARE YOU SURE IT IS NOT WORTH FIXING ?

Great question! With more automotive knowledge and skill I would be all over restoring the car. Maybe it is time for me to learn.

The car may be worth fixing. If you decide to go the other direction it still looks like you could get that right front suspension "fixed" enough to get the car to move under its own power. Spending even a $100 or 2 will probably make a huge difference in shipping costs. Not to mention I have seen inop vehicles loaded and unloaded. You will almost always end up with additional damage to the vehicle. Just my .02

Good advice, but I am out of time. I am leaving the island this week. By the way, the rear passenger side suspension has the same issue.

I think you did alright. The only full set of seats I have seen lately were 1250.00
You should be able to part the rest for what you spent and get the seats for free.
If you need help moving it from Portland let me know.

Once you get it to the NW I might be interested in the motor and/or (definately the)trans if you don't decide to fix.

I can run up there and pick up since shipping is a pain and $$$. You can get a better idea of prices once you get settled.

We shall see, but I tend to agree with you. Thanks for the offer. I won't be moving it much though.

Good to know. I will definitely need some time to get settled and decide exactly what to do. Thanks.
