View Full Version : Fuel Pressure Gauge line kit and T

I bought the Auto Meter fuel pressure gauge and now come to find out I need to buy the braided fuel line to go with it. I'll be going with the Auto Meter 3228 kit. It still doesn't come with the "T" to tap into the fuel line. Anyone have a recommendation on what "T" size etc. I need to get (not sure of the fuel line diameter - 3/8"?) and the best location to tap into? I would imagine right before the rubber goes to a solid metal line, but maybe there's a better way? Thanks.

It amazes me that the fuel line kit costs $16 more than the gauge...

No way I would run a mechanical fuel Guage on the interior of My car, if the Guage or the fuel line fails you have fuel in your interior around a ton of electrical components! Just run an electric fuel Guage.

If You Run A Mechanical You Need To Run An Isolator

It won't fail. It's a stainless steel braided fuel line with a trusted brand name gauge.

Running a fuel line into the car is dumb. Don't do it.

Get the electric gauge like everyone else.
Do be honest, all you need is an AF gauge. Monitor fuel pressure electronically through datalogging every once in a while to make sure its good.

Monitor AFR... With Zack on this one...

If fuel pressure is an issue you will see it there!! Unless you have underlying reasons for needing the fuel pressure gauge...

This is why you see mechanical fuel gauges mounted to hoods..

However, if you do decide you need one (electric), keep in mind the shader valve size is like 1/8" FIP and it does not come with it.

Its man made! and its not worth the risk involved , but hey its your ride!

Screw running a fuel line into the car.

Electric is the way to go if you want a FP gauge.

Think about tbone, the gauge may work perfect, and never leak ever with quality parts.....but IF it ever does, you're screwed....not worth it, IMHO. Count your losses on the kit, and get an electrical gauge.

^^^ Yup! That goes for N2O, Oil, etc. Electric all the way!

Hmmmm... N2O leak could be fun...

I already have the A/F ratio gauge. This is the last gauge I needed for 3 on the pod and 3 on the center console. I guess the A/F gauge will do instead of fuel pressure. I'll get something else. Thanks for the advice.

I run a mech oil pressure gauge, have run it for like 10 years with no issues whatsoever. But fuel? That's a different story to me, I have a fuel pressure gauge mounted on my fuel rail under the hood where it's safer lol.
An isolator is a good option for in-car.

I went with an oil temp gauge to go next to my new real oil pressure gauge. Sent the fuel pressure gauge back. Electrical fuel pressure gauges are too much $$.

Too many damn gauges. I DARE you to actually monitor them going down the track (where it most counts). I'll be in the stands. Back row. With a camera.

AFR and boost for me.

I mounted mine on the fuel rail for when I first fired the motor and just haven't gotten around to taking it off. Also have a wideband. I do have a brand new SW oil temp gauge with probe and everything but I don't have enough room on the dash so it's still sitting in the box lol.

Where does one even install an oil temp gauge (properly) without welding a bung into the side of the oil pan?

Staring at all the gauges is not the point. Do you stare at your tach when you drive? But you like having a tach?
After you went through all the BS I did with the trans breaking and overheating you would have a gauge for everything too. Besides that, I like the looks of them.

I don't stare at mine... wired my AFR and a boost pressure sensor into my SCT to log... Once dialed in I rarely look at anything besides my AFR

Mark VIII oil pan has a bung on the driver's side from the factory. No drilling or tapping or welding necessary lol.

Um yes. Manual trans! That's why I keep my junk simple, because I do monitor. I also always have my ears on so loud music is a rarity.

Plus I can kinda gauge the oil temp by the oil pressure, I know where it's supposed to be when it's cold and when it's hot.

You need a dual Aeroforce gauge setup, it monitors every and anything you can think of, plus a whole lot more you could care less about.

This thread gives me a good idea -- I think I will tap my fuel log and add a T for a passenger compartment fuel line. In combat, a passenger would be able to fill Molotov Cocktails, at speed.

Anyone install an oil temp gauge on the pan yet, or any other good places to tap in? Looks the the pan is a pain in the rump to remove. Looking for alternatives...... Thanks.

That's because it can't be removed, even if you jack up the engine as high as you can.

I've drilled and tapped the front of the pan before up to 3/8" I.P. with no issue at all.

I was worried about shavings, and doubted whether the metal is even thick enough to tap it. I figured I would need a nut on the back side.

This is where the fuel gauge belongs under the hood at the end of the fuel rail. Just remove the Sch. valve and get the proper adapter to fit your fuel gauge that will screw into the end of the fuel rail. Even if you lose fuel pressure with a gauge inside the car you will not be able to react quickly enough to prevent engine damage if you are running a SC at boost.

You install a "T" onto your oil sending pressure switch on the DS of the engine block (by the oil filter).

Or you install it in the pan like most factory set ups..
