Well, looks like I'm due for a rebuild soon. Been feeling a lil slippage in the 2-3 shift & a bit when downshifting from 4-3. Nothing major, but I figure I'll get the parts together before it gets any worse. Been searching here and found a reference to Jerry's Bulletproof 4r70w build, but no actual info. I did find a bunch about getting a Pell grant to pay for your trans rebuild(jk). Should I go with a full stock rebuild using all OEM parts? Or are there some aftermarket parts that would be recommended? Any secrets to better performance & longevity? Thanks in advance to any help. If you happen to just have a link to a helpful thread, please post here. Thanks again! :2thumbs:Mike

I would install another trans cooler in series to the OEM...And make sure to do a J-mod, plus a hard shift tune to prolong the life.

I debated doing the J-mod, but my shifts are pretty damn firm under hard throttle with Marty-o's tune. Will at least chirp 2nd:burn:

We rebuilt mine with stock FORD parts and under advisement DID NOT go with a hardened stub shaft!!

A lot of folks believe in the hardened shaft but the stock shaft can actually save the transmission from catastrophic failure by simply breaking before everything goes to HELL.......just what I was told so we used the stock stub shaft 80,000 miles ago and it still seems fine!!

The J-Mod gave me ridiculously hard 1-2 and 2-3 shifts so we modulated it some under moderate throttle with my tune and let it bang on hard acceleration but it's still seems smooth thanks to wheel spin....God I LOVE this car!!:bows: :D

Good luck and I'm sure other ideas will be posted!!

Read through this & got some good info. Installing some Sonnax kits in the valve body & their redesigned snap-rings. Just drilled & tapped my tailhousing for the rear bushing lube-mod. Will be bending some brake line tomorrow. Hoping she's back on the road Monday.
