Anyone ever paint the chrome window trim black?

I did a vinyl wrap on mine. Lasted through many car washes and Texas sun for about 4 years. It is time to remove and reinstall now. Since they don't really come apart that I know of, I am pretty sure it would end up being a lot of work and not look real good painted.

I used black pinstrip tape that lasted almost 3 years.

I've got a complete set brand new I was debating on painting prior to install... I did a carbon fiber vinyl wrap on mine before but didn't like it...

Plasti dip or blackout tape, that way if you dont like it, it peels right off. For instance, i plastidipped mine, and didnt like it.....peeled of in 5 minutes opposed to a few hours and harsh chemicals.

Did mine with black finger nail polish, nice small brush, easy to use, and looks good.

Used 3M Scotchcal™ Striping Tape to cover the chrome window trim in 2004. Still looks like the day that it was installed. 73302 -3/8" x 150' window trim top.
72702 - 1/2" x 150' window trim bottom.
77102 - 2" x 50' window trim rear door

Great thread. I've been thinking of doing this.

Like I stated I did this a few years back and it looked great! After I switched wheels it was too much black for me. Black car, trim abound windows, & wheels.

I'm gonna give plastidip a try. That tape is expensive!

Make sure you mask about a foot in every direction or you will get overspray on the paint that will be tough to remove, ask me how i know :)

It does. This is almost exactly what I did except used one large piece in the rear instead of the little square at the bottom corner. That part still looks great. Top and bottom are peeling. I don't garage my car and the sun is harsh.

Does anyone have any pictures of this done to a SB? I'm trying to decide if it would look good or not, and google isn't being helpful.

Personal Opinion(s):

On an SB I don't think it would look good since there isn't a big contrast between the SB body color and the chrome. Blacking out the chrome would make too much of a contrast against the SB body color.

BTW.... I don't think blacking out the chrome looks good on any other Marauder color. I think the MM has just the right amount of chrome.

I did this too.. oversprayed the hell out of the rubber moldings, the chrome dip started peeling right away so I removed it. But I think I still have plasti dip on my rubber moldings around the window. Going to wash it with bug and tar remover..
