Should I replace the whole thing or can I simple replace the Ringe and pinion? I think that's all that's wrong. ..

The driveshaft has slack in it... you can wiggle it back and forth. Plus it makes a noise when driving, but when it rotates. It sounds like something is stuck in a wheel but I had it checked out... It's the rear end

So replace everything or can a ring and pinion do the trick?

You need to open it up and inspect what is actually bad.

You are right. I will see where the nearest shop is. I am a long way from home.

My money would be on just a bad pinion bearing from what you describe. If it was bad and you ignored it, then I would also bet the bank you smoked the ring and pinion teeth as well. Of course, that metal will have worked its way into the carrier and outer bearings if let go. It is literally a DOMino effect how "the rear can take a poop"..

E-brake problem? If the E-brake came apart you will have noise at the wheel at any speed. Maybe an axle bearing?

Thought that too but wouldn't cause the driveshaft to be loose. Unless he's just concerned about the backlash that should be present?

It will not make the noise lifted in Netural. You can spin the tires and it's fine. If someone holds one rear tire while another trys to spin it, it will make the noise. The noise will pick up as you go faster. It has a beat to it, not a constant thing when driving.. not yet.

Chad from Wako, TX is going to have me go to his friends shop. We will put it up on a lift and see what's wrong. I hope it can make a 2 hour drive.

This club is the best!

If you can make it back here without having to rebuild it just yet, I have a stock 3.55 ring and pinion set in perfect condition you can have for $0.00.

Or I could FedEx it down there......pay shipping.

Even if I had to make a stop, I still love road trips with this car. I just don't see shops like this at home.

Probably afraid of the big nut behind the wheel.

The driveshaft bolts were lose and something got stuck in my Mooneyes hubcaps. It never occurred to me stuff could get stuck in there. The car is fine. I feel like a total idiot, but at least nothing was broken. Sorry for the delay... I just got home after 1,061 miles of straight driving.

So it made no diff? :D

Could really use those BCMs..... Will cover the shipping costs.

Weren't you just under there messing around with the U-joints and driveshaft? Any chance this was self-inflicted? :bop:

Just had my my U-joints replaced and the balance checked by a driveline shop. I re-installed it using a torque wrench and Loctite. Pretty sure I won't be having a "Motorhead moment".

We all have "Motorhead moments" but most are past my level or do not wanna hurt their pride on-line.

If this site didn't have a Motörhead, It wouldn't be fun ! We need to change the Hitler video and change Hitlers hair to Neon Green !
