View Full Version : Wheel Widening - Southern NJ

I found a local guy who can widen aluminum rims. 30 years experience.

Wheel Works
Burlington, NJ
Owner: Tim Smith
609-387-4488

He charged me $300/rim.

I know that it's more than Weld Craft @ $225/rim but I didn't have to ship the rims (what would that cost with insurance?) - I figured I might have broken even and didn't have the hassle of shipping.

I think that he did a good job. He said 2 weeks and they were ready in 2 weeks (and he called me to let me know).

Also, near him, a friend of his will mount tires for $25/rim with balancing.

So, anyone in the CAM/NE areas, there's someone local who does the work.

Here are pics of the welds:

They look pretty good Mark. Did you pay before or after and does he guarantee his work?

I brought two rims to UPS, let them package them and with $1000 insurance it cost me just under $100 from NY to Michigan. However there is a 4-5 week turn around on the rims. I sent them the end of Febuary and still haven't received a call that they started the process or even how much I owe them for the job and shipping back to me.
Hopefully I'll have them back to get them black chromed and ready for Carlisle.

Don't mean to hijack/sidetrack this thread but what's a brand new in the box set of OEM wheels worth?

The tire that's on the rims is a 305/45/R18.

I will say that the tire, without spacer, rubbed on the shock.

I added a 5/16 spacer just to get back on the road. In addition, with the 5/16 spacer, the lug nuts didn't have "access" to a good number of threads on the studs (Nod to Roger/MOTOWN - I didn't want to get the spacer that required lugs to be ground just yet):

Plenty of turns and able to be torqued down but I'd like to get more lug threads for the horsepower (423 RWHP) that I'm putting to the rear wheels.

I'm looking for some lug nuts that extend into the studs to pick up more threads.

Here are some side shots

He's only an hour from Staten Island (as far as Google maps identifies).

Let's set up meets for the drop off and pick up!

Looks good Mark. Does your guy have the resources to grind those welds flat and make them invisible?

Thanks. I didn't ask. I looked at other widened rims and saw that the welds hadn't been ground.

Also, $600 was about the max that I wanted to spend.

I'm sure that he'd grind the welds (for $) if asked.

Last time I was at wc it was like 220 and I believe he said +50 for weld removal
