OEM tool runs from $120-200 !! I rented a new tool today from Flaps and I only got 2 1/2 threads into the crank nose so I took it back. I've been looking at different kits on line but I don't want to waste my time dealing with another tool that won't work. ???

The installation bolt will and should only push on the crank pulley/harmonic dampener on so far, after that you should use the crank bolt to complete the process, torquing the bolt to spec. DO NOT reuse the original crank bolt, it is torque to yield(TTY) and has a great chance of breaking if it is used again. ARP crank bolts however can be reused.

Put a dab of black RTV in the key way. tap it on with a dead blow to start it. Use a new bolt and torque it down. I have also just used a gun and zapped it down without issue. This is also taking into account that you know your tools and what they can and can't do.

Many have reused the bolts countless times. I figure its cheap and always readily available at the dealer so why not.

The start of the threads on the crank nose do not start till your in about 7/8", the threads on this tool that I rented are 1", so I am only catching a couple threads

Im not understanding, if it catches a few threads, crank it on until the crank bolt catches.?

BFH is always a last resort tool for me. I've always used the install tool with no issues. These motors use thrust bearings and I would rather not hammer on the crank snout. ARP bolts are great.

I used the one I rented first and pulled it in till I could get the crank bolt to reach, and then let the bolt pull it in the rest of the way.
