I recently purchased a 2003 Mercury Marauder and a week later it developed some sort of engine noise.

Timing chain or Bearing? Not to sure need a second opinion.

Pull the fuel injector harnesses off the injectors, only one at a time, to see if it goes away at all. Rev it a little each time too. Get your head under car and see if it is louder underneath.

replace bearings immediately

What he said & do not start engine again until bearings inspected/replaced! Depending on how long you ran it like that it may already be too late... :shake:

Can you take this back and get your money ? I bet you didn't hear this noise until you changed the oil ? They probably put some additive in the oil to quiet it down

An MM sounding like a diesel is never a good sign. :(

That is definitely a rod bearing or bearings. Sorry bud.

I think I found the problem.

And would this kit work on a Marauder?

The wear you found has been happening for many many miles and would not develop a noise 'all of a sudden'
The original video you posted has a distinct sound of a rod bearing, especially as the rpm's come down after revving it up.
I don't think new guides are going to fix this.

^^^This. Unless something let go, but you would have seen something missing. Also I'm sure your pick up screen is quite clogged with all that plastic and not putting out the pressure needed.

To answer your question in the timing set, yes it will fit. I installed it on mine this time last year.
