Wet sump or dry sump? Yeah, there's a few on here that have an external wet sump or dry sump system. Maybe they'll chime in. There are kits for the mod motors.

I think Amsoil used to sell one, oil accumulator, right? Uses vacuum or some other source to keep an extra supply of oil under pressure?

Quick google came up with this:

That's right, oil accumulators work well for drops and surges in oil pressure. Good call Rob!

Given that the Motorcraft oil filters have an effective anti-siphon valve there are minimal dry-start issues for the daily-driven vehicle.

EXCEPTION: When changing the oil and filter, there is no oil to pre-lube. I always prime the new oil filter by filling it with oil.

This is the system I used and plan to buy another,I'm guessing that in the pic is were one would run the oil line.

But for those that aren't daily drivers getting that oil up to the top would be a good thing, myself I'll drive my MM maybe 4 times a month and parked for the winter .

Accelerator pedal to the floor shuts off injectors....crank until you get oil pressure....then start normally!!

This^^^ works.

A real oil pressure gauge will show the increase in pressure while cranking.

+1

IIRC, someone had a preoiler that exploded while driving.

I've got an AccuSump 1 Qt Oil reservoir mounted on my Marauder.
It's not a daily driver and after sitting for a few weeks the engine used to clatter like a bucket of loose bolts when I first fired it up.
With the AccuSump, I flick the solenoid switch just as I crank the engine and pressurized oil is dumped into the engine.
It fires off nice and quiet, like it has been warmed up for 30 minutes! ....even with that quick over-rev programmed into our computers.

Your still turning it over dry if it's been sitting for a few days,

I have had my manual OP gauge for like 10 years and when cranking the engine puts out practically zero pressure. pressure doesn't build up until the motor fires up.

It should never be "dry" as even the thinnest oil clings....besides there is very little load during cranking!!:shake:

You guys are seriously "over-thinking" this.......just crank it and drive it!!:burnout::beer::rolleyes:

Maybe I am overthinking it,on my Cleveland's there is more clearances probably with the bearings and such but I've never checked manufactured specs for bearing clearances in a 4.6.

Very nice clean install. Accumulator can be just what the doctor ordered depending on the build.

About 1 month into ownership, I installed an electric preluber. All my cars have them. It always amazes me that few 'car' people see the need for a preluber. I'd put one on my Yamaha if they made a small one. Maybe one day I'll do the accumulator style on the bike.
