Tstat on trans Cooler

Is there really any advantage to putting a 180 stat in line with the auxiliary trans cooler? My trans barely gets over 100 in the cold temps and 150 in the summer.

There is a flow device on the factory cooler that controls the temperature already, it automatically bypasses in the event of a cooler restriction (like being crushed). Do not ever do anything to restrict the trans cooler flow. The trans cooler return provides lubrication to the gear set in the trans.

They sell a stat specifically to get the trans temp to 180 degrees. My question is, is there an advantage to having the trans run at 180?

I wouldn't run a 180° stat for that, maybe a 160°, figure about 5-10 hotter then the thermostat is set at.

I removed my stock trans cooler to put an F350 super duty one in.

Had to put a 180 t-stat in because it would never get over 100* (pan temp) unless sitting in a drive thru line for several min.

If you still have any of the stock system in you should be good. Try changing the routing of the aux cooler to before or after the stocker and let the stock t-stat regulate it.

Tbone already has an aftermarket cooler installed, hes worried about the trans temp not getting warm enough. Although 100° is low, i think most guys here shoot for 170° or so. If you can't find a 160° thermostat, i would ditch the big azz cooler you got on there and go with the one i bought from jegs. Its $40, stacked plate style, and is identical to the b&m style that sells for $60.

I'm not worried that it runs at a low temp exactly. I just would like to know if there are benefits to it running at 180 or so. Like at the track.....:burnout:
