Does the MM come with a reasonable factory theft deterrent system ?
Or is it perhaps more prudent to upgrade to a more sophisticated unit?

I know most newer autos come with a "Pass Key "or other form of ignition disable but I'd still like to have a shock sensor and intrusion warning.

Does anybody have any suggestions or experience relative to this ?

Marauder uses the "Passive Anti-Theft System" , also caled "securiloc" I think.

It isn't an alarm, but it is effective.

89VERT: I had the Ford alarm installed on my MM last month. It also comes with remote start-you have 3 level to pick from base alarm, etc. I went for the gold to get remote start. The only problem I have is you can not use the key pad on the door. It sets the alarm when you strick the first number. Not a major problem with me. Just that if your outside doing thing and want to get something out of the car you need to get the remote key fob. There are a lot of after market alarms out there as you may well know. I went with the Ford system, Dealer istalled and like I said 3 levels to choose from, $. $$, $$$.

It sounds like I got the same alarm/remote start as Bigdogjim. It comes with a motion detector as well which you turn on or off. If dealer installed on a new car it's warranted like the vehicle 36/80000km otherwise it is only 1 year. The keyless pad still works as normal lock/unlock but if armed with the 4button keyfob it will set of the alarm like Jim mentioned.

Is the Ford alarm/remote-start a "plug in" to the existing harness, or do they have to splice it in?

RCSignals: I know they need a key to put in a box under the dash. I had the same alarm put on my '01 F-150. They need a couple hours to do it.

If I want to add factory remote start to my car do I have to add the alarm?Or can they add it to my exisiting key fobs?

My dad has a Grand Marquis and the dealer installed a factory remote starter. They use the existing remote entry fob [which looks just like my MM remote] To start his car remotely, he pushes to top 2 buttons simultaneously. If he does not do anything else, the car shuts off after 10 minutes.

If our alarms are anything like those on my buddy's 2000 Camaro SS, they work, but take a hell of a lot to set off! He forgot he had the car locked while we were working on getting his Borla quad tips off. So, while we were beating the crap out of the exhaust, the car sat and did nothing until about 20 minutes of beating, THEN the alarm went off!

My Impala has I think the "Pass-Key" or something. I think those types of keys are more annoying then anything.

chapel1: When they were finished with the install I got back the two remote fobs that came with the MM. I also got two new bigger ones that have the extra start button on them. You just put the ones away that caome with the MM and do not use them.

ps: love that remote start in cold weather!

The alarm that I had put in does not require the spare key in a box under the dash. It has motion, as well as doors, trunk, hood and ignition cut off. I can also program the car to start up by itself every 2 to 8 hours over a 48 hour period. It comes with 2 new fobs that replace the old ones. It also has a valet switch and led to monitor the status of the system. It was a third party system that I had my dealer get and put in.

Bigdogjim: What's the range on that remote start, i.e, how far away from the vehicle can you be and still get it to start?

We've got a Bulldog Security remote start on our 93C/V.The park lights will go on when you start the car.It works through windows and walls I would say 20 to 30 feet?I think its depends on line of site and outside interferance?Just rember to leave the fan on high and set for cool or heat.

Anyone have any part numbers for this? I find it much easier getting what I want from my dealer when I already know what they need to find out.

Thanks

MassMarauder: 500 foot range on the remote start. They put an antenna inside the front windshield just above the rear view mirror. Hard to see unless you are looking for it.

That's excellent range!
