anyone know if the major brake change franchises can cross drill and zinc coat a stock rotor if it is brought into them?

I'll answer my own question, some places will directional drill the stock rotor, or you can buy a stock replacement and give it to them to drill. At $50.00 per rotor to drill them, it makes sense for me who is just looking for appearance upgrade to have this done. I have no idea how to zinc plate a rotor as the zinc would just rub off with use, so maybe those zinc rotors are made of zinc? how does that work.. why coat them if it wears off?
Also, does anyone have confirmation that our MM stock rotors front and rear are the exact same as the Grand Marquis 2003 rotors front and rear?

I worked in the Auto Repair equipment business for about 20 years and I shiver when I drive down the street in front of most franchise repair shops. Find a good owner operated shop and give him all of your business and try to avoid the chain shops.

This site says the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Marauder 2003 all have the same part numbers for front and rear rotors and pads...
the rotors look great and are pretty cheap... probably not near as good as what Dennis can get us, but thought I'd pass it along..
http://www.nationalfleetparts.com/rotors4.asp?make=FORD&model=FULL%20SIZE%20LTD,%20CRO WN%20VICTORIA,&year=2003&
if the link does not work, look up SP Performance Rotors in the left side of the page, and type in Grand Marquis or Crown Vic since they do not list the marauder..
The Performance Friction rotor links which are cheaper plain rotors show the Vic, and Marquis and Marauder all have the same part number for rotors.. so i figure the better drilled and slotted SP Performance rotors would work as well for either car model..

The front rotors are the same: 3W1Z-1125-AA
but the rears are different: 3W1Z-2C026-AA for MM
3W7Z-2C026-AA for GM

I bet not different enough to matter? 3W1Z versus 3W7Z I wonder if that part of the product code refers to any dimensional measurements???

The catalog states that 1 has 5 bolt holes and 1 has 10 bolt holes, and 10 being the MM.

darn, even raybestos says they are interchangeable rear rotors with the GM and the MM for 2003... I will check with a dealer too... I wonder if one has 10 bolts (for the hat I assume?) then 5 of the holes won't get used if you use a 5 bolt hat rotor instead.. that can't be too bad?

I work in the parts department at a L-M dealer in Florida.

no offense to Dennis or other vendors here, but if this site is truly a site where we can post ideas and exchange information about our cars then hopefully I won't get banned for possibly finding a cheaper solution to getting drilled and slotted rotors that are as good as the OEM ones. Many other companies make nice drilled and/or slotted rotors for the grand marquis and crown vics, and if they say the 2003 models are all interchangeable, then for half of the KVR rotor prices we can get new upgrades, then good for me. I'm going to verify it with Raybestos again, and even drive through the local old folks home :P to visually inspect the differences between the MM and GM rear rotors.. ours are all one piece rotors and hats, with 5 bolt lug patterns so I do not know what a 10 bolt one means?

Why not just ask Logan about the rules? If you find something sweet for all of us, send him an e-mail before posting? I don't think an honest mistake will get you bounced, but intentional harm won't be allowed...IMHO.
I've tripped across theses rules before, and my understanding is that if you post a referral to a product offered by a vendor here, but available there cheaper, it's a no-no.
If it's for a product not offered by a vendor, it may not matter, as long as you're not pimping for a friend's business.
if you're trying to find a better way to re-engineer the whoa system just for appearances sake, do your homework with a local pro. Brake systems are fairly basic, but still very critical, others here may follow your lead. Best to be very right on the facts, eh?

All it means is it has 5 extra holes. I have seen the difference, and that is it. The bolt pattern is the same, I was just stating the differences. They would probably work, but I won't tell you its ok. They are different for a reason, whatever that may be.

If anyone decides they want an extra set of the stockers, I have 'em for sale. They have 3,000 miles on 'em and are left over from when I put Dennis' KVR set up on all four corners.
