Is there any real horsepower loss by using Resonated tips vs non-Resonated tips? I am talking n/a or sc'd.
Car is a little louder than I would like :o but don't want to change it too much, especially if there would be any kind of power loss.

If it does I doubt you'd notice it. The MM exhaust flows pretty freely from Mercury. The choke point is at the mid pipe where it sizes down a bit. There's a good article on it somewhere.

Tips only fine tune the exhaust note. Res tips will muffle the tone slightly, non-res tips will allow the sound to bellow out.

The resonators are just little tubes with holes inside the tips. Makes no difference at all power wise, just sounds a little different.

I don't even recall little holes? I just remember it was nothing more than tailpipe that kept going in about 8" or so with a crush gasket holding it centered. Never understood why they are referred to as resonators?

Hmmm, I thought sure there were little holes or something. It's been a while though, I think mine came off in 2007.

Heard that. It's been a good five years now probably for me since I had the stock ones gutted.

:agree:
I had my res tips taken off for 4 inch deletes because there was too much back pressure for the high lift cams & now very loud. :D

Thanks for all the info! I may keep my eyes out for a set of stock tips. I want to go to the exhaust shop soon and have the reset my PS tip. It's not tucked up all the way and I may also see about doing 2.5" over the axle pipes while they are at it. That'll probably offset the sound reduction from the resonators, lol. :P
